@derpy Believe it or not, I've tried that excuse with a principal before. Doesn't work, because the tool itself isn't considered a weapon even though it can be used as a projectile, similar to how you could still strangle someone with balls of paper or bare hands, but they're not intended to be used in that fashion.

@retl In my high school, someone one was served with a detention for carrying fingernail clippers.

@starshine I'm glad I never got searched in high school...

@starshine @starshine That's pretty lame. I'd like to see where in the rulebooks they got that from... Unless it's that gotcha rule where students pretty much aren't allowed to bring anything "unauthorized" to class. Which I still think is kinda stupid, but I'm still not entirely convinced that's written in any actual rulebook.

@retl I'm not even sure what rule it would've been disallowed under. I think the teacher just hated him or something.

@starshine I hate that that's the reality. :x But possible.

@retl Yep. And you can't do much either as a student, lest you be called out for causing a disturbance or being unruly or something.

@derpy I think there's a fanfic that explores why knives aren't always weapons. But I'm pretty sure if you asked 15 different people what any reasonable student would need a knife at school for, noone could give you a reasonable answer. By that logic, if someone decided it's present danger, it would be very hard to debunk that.
