@miloth Anything keeping you off Linux?
-
@citrusrain Laziness, and memory capacity. I used to use ubuntu, till it ran out of space. And not the hard drive itself, just ubuntu. Okay, you talked me into using pidgin.

@miloth I've had less memory use with Linux than with Windows.

@scribus not ram memory.

@miloth Ohhh!! :p

@scribus yeah, it is easy to confuse though, I did get that a lot from folks, saying ohhh, and such, not knowing the difference.

@miloth What drives me nuts is when I'm shopping for RAM online (or even in meatspace) and the "Memory" section has hard drives or CR-Rs or something which is actually "Storage!" D: #firstworldproblems lol

@scribus Yeah. Which Reminds me, I need to go shop for ram, because 1gb is not cutting it.

@miloth how did you run out of space?... How big is your hard drive?
-
@citrusrain 73.9 gb out of 225 gbs. I think when my dad installed it with wubi he picked 5gbs or something like that for space.

@miloth wow... I never gave it any less than 12. And 12 became too small for updates. You need 20 minimum. And don't let wubi give you ubuntu 11.04. Go for 10.04 or for Linux Mint.
-
@citrusrain okay. And why not 11.04?
Thursday, 11-Aug-11 16:10:38 UTC from web-
@miloth it's the Vista of Ubuntu.
-
@citrusrain I had enough of vista. Thanks for telling me.

@citrusrain Not a Unity fan?
Thursday, 11-Aug-11 16:11:23 UTC from web-
@scribus not yet. But I have to go and believe that it's more than skin deep when people that have more experience with linux tell me that it doesn't work as well under the hood anymore.
-
@citrusrain I tried switching to Arch when I heard the reviews, but that proved a bit too much for me. Running Lubuntu ATM, but not thrilled with it. Functional, but not amazing. Too quirky for me.

@scribus I do not recognize those distro names. But I have edubuntu on my brother's laptop that I use alot with gnome 2 installed.
-
@citrusrain Arch is majorly lightweight and very cutting-edge. It doesn't come with any GUI, so you can/have to DIY. Minimizes bloat, but it makes it ... a learning experience. Lubuntu is trying to dethrone Xubuntu as the low-end machine *buntu. I have never gotten around to trying Edubuntu. (My word, so many *buntus)

@scribus Edubuntu is just a reskin with all the education stuff from the software center installed as far as I can tell.

@rotation It looks amazing for tablets! Maybe even for netbooks, though I don't see why it's that different than UNE/UNR was for that purpose. I don't really see it being needed for a full laptop or a desktop, though. But, I also think the Mac OS X dock everyone's so gaga over is nothing but a prettier, more intrusive version of the Windows 95 taskbar.

@scribus can't stand the mac bar. Real Estate lost! But I would love a tablet with unity.

@rotation Hey, it's not like anyone remembers Xerox. :p
