@zach121k What was his name? And is it on here?

Some days, I feel like a god - in that people expect me to fix all of their problems for them.
-
@scribus my toaster broke, fix it? :)
-
@scribus Perhaps that's the first step towards actually becoming a god?
-
@koen Adapt. You'll thank me when the experience makes you stronger.
-
@flaxx But I don't want that kind of responsibility... No one ever *asked* if I wanted to be deified!
-
@scribus Tough luck! You're becoming a god whether you want it or not!
-
@zach121k Then go out in the world and do good deeds until the universe deems you a crucial piece to the existence of everything. Or something, I dunno how to become a god. But doing good sounds like a good idea.
-
@flaxx ...fine. /Twilight
-
@scribus My Windows 7 installation is being irritating, could you fix it for me? Pretty please? Pretty please with a strawberry on top? :P
-
@leonkfox Use the (open) source... :p
-
@scribus @leonkfox While I love Linux as much as a stingy amateur radio enthusiast, there are times when you have to stick with windows, such as for most work- and school-related tasks. For most of us, you have to at least dual-boot. With that in mind: Leon, would you mind describing what goes wrong? One more time?
Jon and Angela Conrad likes this. -
@scribus *ish confuzzled*
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Oh, hay Lily! How'd that campaign from earlier this moth go?
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, I've been on Linux for long enough to forget a lot of Windows fixes.
-
@leonkfox Suggesting Linux while parodying Obi-Wan.
-
@scribus Ah....should have realized that, it was pretty obvious !derp
-
@scribus But yeah, tried using Linux on my PS3 once....never....ever....again....(it made simple tasks like installing programs a friggin' NIGHTMARE)
-
@musicssound Unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet you. Those were some tough Orcus cultists, we spent more than two hours on a single encounter.
-
@leonkfox Really? I find it significantly easier on my laptop. I guess you had to compile and manually resolve dependencies?
-
@leonkfox The one for ps3 is Yellow Dog Linux, yes? That one is supposed to be an absolute nightmare, and only meant for Gentoo\Slackware-experts. Try Mint, it's very Windowsy. It's where I started.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Mint is lovely. Best Linux I've used.
-
@leonkfox One thing though, it's useful to know what you want to achieve before venturing into Linux. My goal was always to learn more about computers, and so I did...mostly through crashing and having to fix it. Whoever it is that said Linux is more stable than Windows haven't met me.
-
@ceruleanspark I actually used to like Ubuntu better than Mint. Mostly because I like vanilla gnome2 a lot. Now that gnome3 and Unity is everywhere I'm thinking of trying Debian.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony I use Ubuntu at work, but I use it headless via SSH, so the window manager is irrelevant.
-
@ceruleanspark I couldn't get Mint to install last time I tried. Though, the hardware in question was on its last leg, that could have been the real issue now that I think about it...

@leonkfox Windows 7 is fine. For computer programmers, Linux is about 20% cooler. Most people are stuck with upgrading from 95 or 98 to XP or Vista or Windows 7. This is a good thing. There are only 32-bit and 64-bit machines from either AMD or Intel. XP does fine on any of them, but is geared for 32-bit machines. Vista gets lots more power out of the hardware but also created some problems for itself in doing so. Windows 7 is the fixed version of Vista. Some people got used to computing with Microsoft DOS-3.3. When Windows 3.0 came out, many were forced to learn to use it for work, but others would play with it briefly before dropping back into DOS to actually do anything with their PC. Windows 7 works wonderfully in comparison to previous versions. Unfortunately, there are way too many applications to choose from, and the OS also suffers from feature bloat. To get your Windows to be less irritating is only a matter of asking less of it. Start with your firewall and virus protection.

@zach121k Meh, he obviously has internet, so getting a life is probably too much to ask.
-
@zach121k Replying to pople like that just makes them happy, best to just ignore and block.
