@pony so what i gleamed from the nets is this: The latin word 'salis' is defined in some cases as 'salt' and in others 'wit'. The phrase itself comes from Naturalis Historia, regarding that one of the ingredients of an antidote to a poison is salt. An alternative account says that the Roman general Pompey believed he could make himself immune to poison by ingesting small amounts of various poisons, and he took this treatment with a grain of salt to help him swallow the poison. very interesting slight of history there :D
