@ceruleanspark The most important part of this is lift. An airplane gets lift from the wings or in the cast of helicopters the rotors. Lift is created by the airfoils. An airfoil is a part of the aircraft designed to generate lift. It generates lift due to it's shape. If you've ever looked at an airplanes wings from the side you'll notice that it has a much larger curve on the top of the wing and a smaller curve on the bottom. This shapes generated lift because as it passes through the air the air wants to stay were it is. The airplanes wings displace the air but it always travels back to it's original position.
