  1. @abigpony It's not a matter of whether it's extreme or not, it's a matter of how well they're able to convey it. I don't know what genre's you like, but making everything not an extreme would make things a bit bland. For example: If you were to make a sad story, you can do it poorly by not giving any emotional buildup and making the characters not worth caring about so that we could care less when the sad moment/moments happen. However, give them characterization and story and you just might make people care what happens to them (maybe not cry, but you should still be able to relate or feel something) Now let's say you wanted to make this sad story not an extreme. It's reasonably harder to garner emotion from a story about failing a test, compared to losing a friend (It's very possible though, which proves it doesn't matter how extreme or not) This being the case, if there were only one genre for middle ground, it'd be like having the emotional range of a robot.
