@tom79 Not exactly :-)
GNU Social extends obsolete Twitter 1.0 API, but some APIs are different, see e.g. implementation in #AndStatus https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/blob/master/app/src/main/java/org/andstatus/app/net/social/ConnectionTwitterGnuSocial.java
One of very important features that I didn't implement yet: Groups
See https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/248#issuecomment-219826572 -
@tom79 Yes, you can use Basic authentication with #GNUSocial (username + password). Several years ago I tried to find any working example of OAuth with GNU Social and didn't find any. Since that time #AndStatus supports Basic Authentication only with GNU Social.

#AndStatus Android client is ready for integration/developer's testing of the "client to server" #ActivityPub protocol.
I created an alpha build of AndStatus for server developer, which allows to use AndStatus as a manual Server API testing tool.
In order to move forward, past authorisation step, I need an account on a server that successfully authenticates/authorises a User. Servers that I'm aware of, didn't automate/implement the Client registration/User authorisation steps yet...
More details and discussion are here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/499 -

@mararm Actually, the problem is deeper: GNU Social really cannot provide information on a "Remote user" (a User fromanother server). So in GNU Social this function works for local users only.
If you have accounts on different servers, you may have noticed that #AndStatus understands that users on different servers with the same webfinger ID (like email) are actually the same User. This is why a profile shows notes from different servers ("Social networks") and you can switch between profiles of the User as shown at different social networks. E.g. I can see your profile (and posts) via 6 social networks (some of them are down now...) Profile at each Social Network can have different avatar... https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4930783 -
@camoceltic version of #AndStatus that supports Android 4.4, is still available here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
Regarding your device firmware update to at least Android 7, I would search for LineAge OS firmware. Many popular devices do have updates... -

@aldobelus I didn't make any specific changes to notify multiple times. Actually, I didn't test recently, how notification sounds work in #AndStatus. Will do this, thank you for noticing.
-
@berry I turned off by default "Syncing..." messages in a timeline (Settings -> Syncing -> Syncing Indicator in a Timeline).
Will be included in the next release of #AndStatus.
Next I will try to fix navigation between sections of settings. Actually, it works correctly on a tablet...
And I see that allowing users to switch from standard Android's Action Bar to customised timeline tabs will be my next move. -
#AndStatus v.45.00 "Unread Notifications and improved HTML support" is published to Beta channel, see https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
What's new:
1. Added the "Unread notifications" timeline, sorted by the time of download ("received ... minutes ago"), so it is easy to see new activities. Moreover, the timeline has "Mark all as read" button to explicitly instruct #AndStatus to not notify about all currently shown activities anymore.
2. Improved handling of HTML-formatted content. "Escaped" characters are (mostly...) correctly preserved now, especially if created by this User.
Notes are shared in HTML format.
Working towards ActivityPub adoption, AndStatus now internally stores notes in HTML format. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4831309 -

@dpwiz I didn't send HTML-formatted notes to GNU Social via #AndStatus yet :-) Looks like I need to either find a way to tell a server that a note ("notice") has text/html media type, or revert to the plain text sending for GNU Social. BTW text/html is the default media type for #ActivityPub content.

@vaeringjar I looked up in a source code a way a text is handled, when HTML content is enabled or disabled. As I see now, this needs to be improved. I started from test creation, based on your first post about the Light Bulb, and easily found that when HTML is enabled, #AndStatus "unescapes" the text unnecessarily thus breaking HTML-encoding.
Will fix this. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4801600 -
@aldobelus I just added the "Unread notifications" timeline, sorted by the time of download ("received ... minutes ago"), so it is easy to see new activities. Moreover, the Timeline has "Mark all as read" button to explicitly instruct #AndStatus to not notify about all currently shown activities anymore.
This will solve both problems that you mentions.

@vaeringjar You probably have "Allow HTML content" enabled for this Social Network in #AndStatus. This is why it interprets content of your post as HTML-formatted, and text between "less" and "greater than" are interpreted as an HTML tag :-) You may disable this feature for the network and then try again... << The first line >> The second line https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4797429

@grillpflanze This means that you are not connected via WiFi.
To download attachments via Mobile network please turn off in #AndStatus Settings -> Attachments -> Download Attachments over WiFi only -
@dwmatiz I changed #AndStatus to keep selected Account. I.e. no account switches on timeline/context switching...
Some related changes, e.g. with Timeline titles were done also...
You may try this in the v.44.00 https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456 -

@autogestion A month or two ago I visited the https://test.activitypub.rocks site and at last found out, which exactly features are REQUIRED for a client app to formally declare its support of #ActivityPub.
I've added "Client discovers the URL of a user's outbox from their profile" already, working on other features. What's most important is that internal data model of #AndStatus is already compatible with #ActivityPub, I hope :-)
The only hard part to implement is compatible OAUTH (AndStatus supports two variants of OAuth, but it looks like I will need the third for ActivityPub...)
After completion of the REQUIRED features I will create the new "ActivityPub" Social Network Type (in addition to the three existing) and will start actual testing...
Unfortunately, I don't see any working _real_ (not a toy) server with Client to Server layer support, where I could register as a user and test my client app ;-(
