@daw It has been years since I ran #MySQL on #Windows ( #WinXP ). Not sure anything is still relevant to current versions of MySQL or Windows.

No estoy todo el día publicando o hablando de #sofware por que no entiendo apenas, nunca lo he estudiado ni nada de eso, me pase a linux solo con la ayuda de la !p4g y usuarios como @raito y @xikufrancesc miembros de dicho grupo y tambien de !bobinas pues in su ayuda no hubiera sido posible, pero mas allá de cambiar de distro, configurarla y bajarme algun programilla por la terminal, mmnn la terminal mola,  y algo que he ido aprendiendo en un año y poco se lo debo a ellos y con esto quiero decir que esto completamente satisfecho con la filosofía del #sofwarelibre y su magnifica red como #GNUsocial, puedo decir a boca llena después de este tiempo que estoy orgulloso del cambio y completamente satisfecho pues de momento solo uso internet para las redes , hacer algún CV  y enviar algún mail y para eso me sobran conocimientos y sistema. Con #GNUlinux soy mas feliz que con #Windows, definitivamente si.

Black Screen of Death, WIndows ends up being dead in the water. Does anyone know what's causing this with VPS servers?

I've been trying to analyze the problem, but it's really hard. Because there's really little to analyze. Nothing in logs etc. Often even processes listening sockets, do technically work to some point. But logs do not show anything etc.

I'm personally thinking it probably could have something to do with disk I/O being slow or being so slow that writes / reads timeout etc. But I don't know. It's super hard to get anything to analyze about this problem. Maybe I'll need to write separate debug program which monitors all these aspects and reports out over socket about disk parameters etc. But what if it also dies without any sign.

Any pro-tips? I can make some poor nerdy guesses, but it's really hard to come up with proper facts backing up those guesses.

I've already placed basic monitoring which checks cpu, ram, disk read and write. So far haven't hard any of the problems. Most annoying part of all this is of course the fact, that it happens very rarely. Which makes debugging much slower and harder. Naturally the systems I'm running the extended system monitoring, haven't had any problems. (sigh)

Sometimes even the RDP works, but shows black screen for several minutes and then disconnects.

I'm wondering if anyone would know the answer. I guess there are multiple factors. But even guess what's the generic breaking point is would be beneficial. I would guess it's somewhere between 5 - 120 seconds.

I've got a case where disk I/O is really slow due to (serious) storage backend issues. I'm wondering how much latency will Windows tolerate on default, before giving up on writes and corrupting databases and file systems?

I've tried to look for that information for a few days, but nobody seems to have a clear answer for that.

So if storage system write takes more than N seconds, it's write failure and skipped? I could assume that will happen at some point, but what the exact breaking point is. It will naturally lead to data integrity disaster.

@daw Normally, log-ins require an account in $ORGANIZATION's domain (or a domain trusted by that domain). You can't just use an outlook\.com account. Now, I'm talking #Win7 and earlier. I haven't seen newer versions of #Windows in enterprise deployments except tiny pilot programs.

In den Tiefen einer abartigen Windows-Welt ...

Es gibt bei mir einen Service, den nur ganz gute Schulfreunde von früher bekommen. Die dürfen ihren #Laptop bei mir abgeben und ich mache den wieder flott. So kam eine alte Freundin bei mir vorbei, die jetzt als Journalistin arbeitet und meinte ihre wichtigen Recherchen wären auf dem Laptop und der wäre inzwischen unerträglich langsam. Ich schaute mir die Windows-Möhre an und stellte fest, dass sie mit Malware verseucht war. Der Internet-Explorer quoll über mit Toolbars und unnötigen Reklame-Plugins. Erstaunlich, dass da kein Verschlüsselungstrojaner zugeschlagen hat. Ich säuberte den Laptop erst mal von der Mal- und Bloodware. Dann schaltete ich die Windows-Updates wieder ein, die seit über einem Jahr nicht mehr eingespielt worden waren. 164 Updates wollte das Ding runterladen und das dauerte ewig. Dann sollte das Ding neu gestartet werden. Gesagt getan und beim runterfahren sollten dann 110 Updates installiert werden. Ich traute meinen Augen kam aber da stand, dass es 2 Tage dauern würde und ich auf keinem Fall vorher ausschalten sollte. Das kann ja wohl nicht sein - #WTF?! Es lief dann ziemlich schnell von 1 - 30 hoch und ich dachte, die #Zeitangabe ist wohl grob verschätzt. Irgendwann war ich müde und legte mich hin und ließ den Laptop über Nacht laufen. Am nächsten Morgen war er auf 90 und meinte das noch 1 Tag notwendig wären ...

Ich stelle mir gerade vor man braucht das Teil dringend und muss wegen der Updates 2 Tage warten. So etwas ist doch unzumutbar - warum tun sich das Leute an?

Zum Abschluss habe ich noch die Windows-Partition verkleinert und unaufgefordert ein #Linux draufgepackt. Damit da notfalls noch was vernünftiges drauf läuft :)
