Instructions for Windows are identical to OS X. You download Thunderbird, install like normal. then go into the addons menu from the hamburger button, search for enigmail, and install it. It will say it "can't find GNUPG and do you want to install it. You say yes to do the installer. In the installer, it will give you four options to install, with gnupg pre-selected. Just continue, don't install the other ones.

After that, it's totally the same again.

As usual, if you have problems, I will help you when I can. Looks like a server problem just cam up so I'll be busy.

  14. Probably the few reasons I don't use # by choice anymore:

    1. cmd.exe and Powershell are still not quite as nice to use as zsh or even bash.   The language of the first is pretty bad by modern standards, and the tab completion of the first two is terrible.

    2. The Windows Registry is a piece of Fluffle Puff compared to flat configuration files.

    3. The Windows Event Viewer is a piece of cherry compared to flat log files.  Heck, it's even worse than journalctl from systemd.

  17. Have you guys noticed *Security Updates Guide (SUG)*? I didn't before today. I don't know where I've been hiding, but this was news to me. So I assume someone else has also missed this important change.

No more security bulletins. Just database where you can look for things and one big 'update packet', no more individual patches.

Ok, doesn't make any difference in most of cases. But in some cases, this is a big change. At least many of my tech friends didn't especially like this change. Even if I can personally understand why it's beneficial to have 'one version' instead of something partially patched and then complaining that something isn't working.

  30. It's amazing how persistent (RDP / RDC / RDS) aka Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop attacks are. The network banning application I wrote has now banned more than 1000 IP addresses and +40 subnets (/24 using IPv4 and /48 using IPv6). Most interesting observation is that large number of systems located in totally different data centers, as numbers and networks and countries are being attacked by same IP addresses. This means that some of the attackers are extremely active. This is also great reason why centralized banning which protects whole network works so well. If server network in New York is attacked from some IP address, it makes perfect sense to ban same IP address in London and Helsinki. First I thought it would be kind of overkill, but in reality this is highly beneficial.
