If you can defend and then explain, define, and describe then there is no need for it in a debate, it should be noted that to do so is important when you aren't a specialist in the said subject. If you aren't a specialist (I forgot the word to use in place of "Specialist" sorry :P) then citing sources should be fine but a link or name will suffice just as well.
