@thetwilitebrony0vinylscratchrecollor Its practically necessary for anything that isn't a slice of life fanfic since you can only have so many settings and concepts that are both canon as well as necessary in the other type of genres.

@thetwilitebrony0vinylscratchrecollor That's the fun part! The canon stuff can act as a seed. The key, I think, is to try to find the cores of the characters, and determine, as well you can, how they would act in different scenarios. That's what I've always liked about alternate universe type stories.

I tell you, though, this whole idea floating around of Lunar Republic and Solar Empire is fun to play with, and it really makes me want to run some sort of space opera game centered around those lines.
