@abigpony S'not pretentious to have your own view on something, and I understand what you're saying. Must say, though, that I feel there is a legitimate connection, for me (and I'm sure others), with this show. I was always looking for something, I guess, that did have heart, colour, was uncynical and therefore could appeal to virtually anypony. The messages and camaraderie of the characters appeal to me on a spiritual level. This show seems to embody that. I think it has awakened in many (myself included) a means of expression, of showing certain things inside us that we previously had no outlet for - or rather, didn't realise we did. Yes, this is far beyond the remit of the show itself: I really do find this fanbase extraordinary and necessary. It has helped me both learn my potential, explore new avenues, and also become more comfortable in myself. Thank you all for giving me that freedom! This is my sincere feeling.
