Been seeing the pope in the news and I'm thinking... "heteronormativity"...... DISCUSS!
Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 22:53:40 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Um... If you want to mean
-
@purplephish20 Does not apply to ponies. ;p
-
@forestrain That serves me right for trying to create meaningful debate on RDN
-
@purplephish20 I think that it's really not as bad as some make it out to be. We're a sexually-reproducing species, requiring hetero pairings to pull it off. To reach the population we have, or to have lasted as long as we have, it just seems logical to guess that hetero is the norm.
-
@scribus I'm still unsure on it, it doesn't seem really homophobic but yeah, I find it unfair to assume something of someone until proven (either way)... It's just me though, I wanted to get some opinions, preferably those who are LGBT themselves
-
@scribus not necesserily right, the need for chirldren is something that every indevidual has, and that includes gay ones, so it is possible that for a species to be gay as a norm but still use heterosexual intercourse as a reproduction-only action
-
@purplephish20 Yeah, I get that, too. Not really LGBT myself. Part of the much larger (potentially satirical) QUILTBAGPIPE, though. :p
-
@scribus We have a -PIPE now?
-
@thelastgherkin Or so I have read on the 'tubes.
-
-
@scribus I have no idea what that means, I identify as bi so it makes me wonder if it's right to assume everyone is heterosexual unless proven otherwise, and I think in a few years it will be even less nitpicked so people may not even bother making assumptions
-
@scribus @zennx @purplephish20 on a wall in my college, there is a graffiti saying "against the homophoby, for the right of sucking a dick.
-
-
@scribus Well, neat, I guess. Until the next all-encompassing acronym, at least.
-
@purplephish20 I think "assume" may even be a bit of a strong word - seems to carry more conviction than just "guess." But that may just be me.
-
@thelastgherkin Ye olde ABCDEF...I don't like this joke enough to type the entire alphabet, so I'll type an explanation that is actually longer than it would have been to go through to XYZ in the first place.
-
@zennx that is all i can say http://ur1.ca/7ejo9
-
@mushi Speaking of, I was in a bar last night, and it seems that now instead of scrawling phone numbers on bathroom walls people are writing Twitter accounts. Progress!!
-
@zennx ........ Why did you link me to that?
-
@scribus I dislike that, for the following reason: no more "toilet poetry"
-
@scribus XD! There is a lot of things writen on a bus stop there. so , one day, someone wrote "out of twitter? use this bus stop!" Reverse progress!
-
@purplephish20 racism and sexualsim are pretty much the same thing so basicaly that song should be somewhat related... anyway what I mean to say is everyone judges (I do so kuz I like the gavel)
-
@zennx Progress is not without its cost, sadly.
-
@scribus I miss the feel of going to a restroom and reading "Jack <3 Maria" or "for a good time call xxxxxxxx" or even "Steven likes men", and then whilst I'm doing my buisness reflecting on who steven is, is it all of us? is it the governament and it's sexist ways? is it that flamboyant gentleman that I saw when I entered the bar, with a glittery handbag, a shirt that said "Stevie" and pants that said "hot stuff" in the rear?
-
@zennx I just think of peeing when I go to the bathroom. you got too much time on your hands, or too you think too much
-
@zennx i still see these, in restrooms, public phones and busses
-
@zennx Now it's all hastily-and-illegibly-scribbled gang names... Or, evidently, Twitter handles.
-
@mushi yes but they are slowly disapearing, I don't know if it's kuz people are getting more civical, or just switching to washable ink sharpies... either way I think it's an important part of culture that should not be lost
-
@zennx probably the second option
-
@scribus kids these days... I blame the parents mostly, when I have kids I'm going to take them to the nearest bar and tell them to draw a apples in the inside of the bathroom stall
-
@zennx There... may be a few issues with that...
-
@scribus like what?
-
@zennx Most bars being 21+, the whole "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" bit...
-
@scribus Here most bars are open to all kids, but you can't order anything with acohol in 'em...
-
@zennx Oh, yeah... The whole "international" aspect of the internet. XD
-
@scribus so basicaly there a kid can't go into a bar at like 4pm and say: gimme some nachos and some OJ?
-
@zennx Not at a Bar-bar. There are restaurants with a bar section, or a "Bar and Grill" sort of thing (which is basically a restaurant with even more of a bar section), but a straight-up bar is usually 21+, often ID at the door.
-
@scribus sounds ok then, we have adult bars here too, but even they allow kids in if they are with adult family members, and even those that don't care about the "responsable adult" will only ask for ID if you order booze or tobacco...
