      1. @yodelerty Huzzah to you too, and greetings!

        1. @flaxx Greetings, comrade! How's everything? :D

          1. @yodelerty They are rather nice! Apart from the times I'm reminded of the speech I should write. But I'm pretty happy because the last two ponies I drew turned out nice. :3 You?

            1. @flaxx I'm sick. Bad cough, aching body, y'know that kind of stuff. And I have to spend the next ~10 hours doing homework since I couldn't get any done yesterday. Other than that, though, I'm just peachy. Have you decided on a topic for your speech yet, or is the progress bar unchanged? XD

              1. @yodelerty Aw, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. :c And nope, haven't done a thing. Guess I'd better start with it today or something.

                1. @flaxx Well, you've got until Monday, right? You can do it on Sunday! That's the procrastinator's way! :D

                  1. @yodelerty Problem is I'm probably going back to my dad's place this weekend, and if he sees me doing homework he won't let me be till I tell him what I'm doing, and then he'll be checking on me all the time so I'm actually working on it. :/ Kind of trying to keep this secret from him.

                    1. @flaxx You're keeping the secret that you're a chair from your dad? How is that even possible?

                    2. @flaxx Hmm? Why do you want to keep it a secret? Unless you're like me and just like to keep everything a secret from your parents.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:22:24 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                      1. @yodelerty I just said why. I can't do homework if my dad is going to look over my shoulder on everything I do and comment on it all the time. It's a real pain in the flank.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:25:25 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                          1. @yodelerty No worries. I'll just finish most of it before going to his place, and then I'll be all sneaky about it and he'll be none the wiser.

                            1. @flaxx Smart. Gonna be doing some late-night homework sessions while you're there, then? (Dad's asleep; do homework. >_>)

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:30:44 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                              1. @yodelerty That's the plan. Of course, I'll probably end up not doing that until Sunday night, and then I'll throw something together last minute, and then everything will be fine once I got it all over with.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:33:30 UTC from web
                                1. @flaxx That's the way to do things. Procrastinate until the stress has built up sufficiently then let loose. That's how I'm gonna finish these two assignments that I haven't even started and are both due tomorrow. :D

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:36:59 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                  1. @yodelerty Haha, good luck with that! I do that a lot too. Not much beats the feeling of finally finishing something you should've done months ago and really needs to be finished in a few days. That happens every year for me. Of course, I never learn my lesson, so this year is bound to be the same.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:38:47 UTC from web
                                    1. @flaxx Same here, man. I know I'd probably have better grades if I managed my time better, but I always lose motivation in the first few weeks of a semester. This semester I'll be lucky to pass all my classes because I made a bunch of stupid decisions like not going to class and the like. If I pass, my GPA is still going to suffer. But that's my own fault. :/

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:43:39 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                      1. @yodelerty I know that feel, bro. I'm lucky because I have an easy time learning things, otherwise I would probably have to study way more to pass my classes. Every year I'm like "Alright, this year I won't procrastinate! I'll finish things on time so I don't have to worry about anything!" Then, two weeks later, "bleh, I got several weeks to do all this. I can do it later. *Ponies*". >.>

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:47:25 UTC from web
                                        1. @flaxx Yeah, I've always been able to learn things quickly too. That's probably part of my downfall, actually: I always think that I'll be fine if I miss just one lecture and that always turns into all the lectures. And then I come on RDN instead. Because ponies > school. >_>

                                            1. @flaxx Pretty much. That's basically what happened in my software engineering course this semester. I was like "Java? Pfft. I learned that all in high school." BUT I DIDN'T. I DIDN'T KNOW, MAN! D':

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:56:28 UTC from web
                                              1. @yodelerty I've heard some serious Java rants.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:57:29 UTC from web
                                                1. @eaglehooves How do you mean?

                                                  1. @yodelerty I room with a computer science major. I go to bed at 4am and he's usually still cursing Dr. Java.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:59:35 UTC from web
                                                    1. @eaglehooves Oh, god. That sounds hilarious. XD

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:03:29 UTC from web
                                                    2. @eaglehooves I'm a CS major (well, the closest UK approximation to it, since the terminology doesn't entirely match up), and I've never found Java to be quite worthy of that much cursing. Probably helps that we only had to use it in our first year, though.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:05:40 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                                      1. @spectrumscramble Yea. Part of the frustration is that him and the other CS majors he's friends with know other languages and have to use Java instead.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:08:35 UTC from web
                                                        1. @eaglehooves This year it depends on which module: C for the systems module, Scala (a Java VM-based one, but not the same language) for the distributed/networking stuff, and a mix of C and C++ for the other modules. Still not entirely what I'd have chosen, but there's variety enough that it doesn't just turn into "UGH JAVA".

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:11:14 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                              2. @yodelerty Oh man, I know what you mean. That moment when you go to do a test and you're like "I haven't studied much, but eh, I looked it through a bit and know most of it" and when they give you the test it's like "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS CRAP"

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:59:27 UTC from web
                                                1. @flaxx Which is too bad because it completely ruins my concentration when that happens because I freak out. The teachers are against us, I know it! D:<

                                                  1. @yodelerty Definitely! Damn teachers, trying to teach us things! Not okay!

                                                    1. @flaxx Exactly! How dare they try to get us ready for future careers with their knowledge! D:<

                                                      1. @yodelerty Things like that can not simply go unpunished! The will pay!

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:14:23 UTC from web
                                                  2. @yodelerty It's a fact that tests mostly measure your ability to write tests and not what you actually know. Teachers can't really change that so it is the system that hates you.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:10:23 UTC from web
                                                    1. @hakupony That kind of what I thought. When you give a multiple-choice exam (which all my exams are at least partially) you're testing a student's ability to use logic as opposed to the subject matter itself. :/

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:13:21 UTC from web
                                                      1. @yodelerty There was a study about the subject and believe it or not: open questions are worse since you must anticipate what they want to hear while you know much more.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:19:00 UTC from web
                                            2. @flaxx Unless you study a subject in which you can write papers about MLP. The series is very interesting to things like gender studies.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 14:57:05 UTC from web
                                              1. @hakupony You know, I probably /could/ write about MLP in some way, but I'm too pusillanimous to stand in front of my class and talk about ponies. :/

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:00:40 UTC from web
                                                1. @flaxx I'm kind of a performer and enjoy surprising people. If you talk about "construction of gender roles through childrens television in postmodern society", nobody would expect you to go into the characterization of Ponies. Of course, everyone will think I was strange but I like that image.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:08:44 UTC from web
                                                  1. @hakupony Weeeeell everyone kind of already know I watch ponies (converted most of my friends, I did), so it wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Personally, I kind of just want to do the most boring speech I can so people stop listening to what I'm even saying as soon as possible. I hate being in the centre of attention. :/

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:10:38 UTC from web
                                                    1. @flaxx That's sad because overcoming this feeling of uneasyness is what you should learn when they ask you to present your results. That akes sense since you could be an Ace and nobody would notice that if you can't show what you can.

Thursday, 12-Apr-12 15:20:57 UTC from web
                                                      1. @hakupony I kind of don't want to show what I can. I mostly want to just not stand in front of my class and talk about stuff. I'm sure it's great to be able to stand in front of people and talk, but I really really really /really/ don't want to practice that. Especially since I haven't a clue what I should even be talking about.

                                        2. @flaxx Same with me. I tend to go to all lectures and are rather actively participating, but only at the end of the Semester, I start to really get on with learning and stuff. Most of the time, I even are to lazy to take notes. In Addition, I tend to get distracted by campus politics and optional things. As a result, i know more than most and fail at the tests...

                                          1. @hakupony I usually don't have much problems with tests, because information sticks to my brain like I-don't-know-what for some reason (in some cases, at least). It's usually when I actually have to /do/ something, like the speech I should be writing right now, that things go wrong.
