  1. My laptop just turned off at random. I touched the bottom of it and I may have burned myself. My room now smells strongly of heat. I think I just toasted my laptop. #

    1. @renovatedkitchen Oh, noes! I really hope it was a fail safe thing and that it's not dead.

      1. @flaredancer HUZZAH!! IT LIVES!!!! Thank Jesus and all his friends!!!! I have no money at the moment to spend on a new one.

        1. @renovatedkitchen Yay! Glad to hear it! Also, no, I can't do any form of animal milk. It's the lactose that's the problem. I couldn't even do human milk. And I can't remember what milk tastes like, so I don't know if soy milk tastes the same

          1. @flaredansameness they don't taste the same really at all I remember when I switched to soy milk awhile back and it toke awhile to get use to

          2. @flaredancer Hmm. That is a good point. Isn't there lactose free milk? I too have allergies to lactose, but only mildly. I however can't eat a lot of chicken or I will die. I have strong allergies to one of the chemicals they give chickens to grow.

            1. @renovatedkitchen There are, but, really, as far as an adult's diet goes, there's no point to drinking animal milk. Mammals aren't actually meant to process milk past infancy.

              1. @flaredancer thats a bummer. Well, the only real use I have for milk is to put it in coffee (black coffee is still okay), that smoothie and French toast. Mmmmmm

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 09:52:16 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                1. @renovatedkitchen I use soy milk for all that. Though, I did have hazelnut milk in my coffee over the weekend

                  1. @flaredancer ah. That's what I was I believe. Hazelnut milk. Soy works for French toast? That's cool. Didn't know if it wouldn't because you are cooking it and all. Well, there's also ice cream. But (if you have ever had them) that so delicious ice cream is really good and is made from coconut milk. Two favourite things are ice cream and French toast. Never mixed them. I don't know what would happen.

                    1. @renovatedkitchen I don't actually like French toast, so I don't know. Heh. I do like some coconut milk ice cream, but I tend to prefer soy and almond ice cream

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 10:09:03 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                      1. @flaredancer not sure if I've tried almond milk ice cream before. I probably have at my friends house and not noticed. His dad is a vegan and always gets that kinda stuff. How was the night shift?

                        1. @renovatedkitchen I enjoy it. Not so sure about Rice milk ice cream, though. It's fun to call it Rice Cream, though

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 16:35:22 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                          1. @flaredancer lol. Rice cream. So wait. Are you a vegetarian, vegan, or just lactose intolerant?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 16:51:18 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                            1. @renovatedkitchen I'm lactose intolerant and pescitarian, though I'm considering going full Veggie

                              1. @flaredancer Isn't it ever hard to be a vegetarian? I guess with the exception of fish it's not that bad.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 18:11:08 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                1. @renovatedkitchen I think dairy making me sick has been harder than not eating land meats. It's difficult in my area to find good food that doesn't have butter or cheese. I eat at home a lot. Which saves me money, so it works. The smell of certain meats make me sick now, too. Chicken and turkey are the worst.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 18:42:47 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                  1. @flaredancer that's a bummer. I have never been a fan of meats like steak, bacon and such. I do like the odd set of ribs and such smaller dishes of meat. Tr food there sounds nice, but I guess it isn't really healthy. Cooking at home is always good. And fun too at times. Have you ever heard of raw food?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 18:55:02 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                    1. @renovatedkitchen Yeah, a lot of what I eat is raw. I'm too busy to cook, so I clean and pack fruits and veggies to eat.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 18:59:54 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                      1. @flaredancer Thats good. Apparently raw food is much healthier than eating anything cooked. There are also fancy ways of making it. I once made a raw pecan pie. It was really good :)

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:05:50 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                        1. @renovatedkitchen Yeah, when you cook foods they lose nutrients. If I recall correctly, potatoes have a decent amount of Vitamin C if you eat them raw

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:07:53 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                          1. @flaredancer Raw potatoe's, eh? Couldn't imagine it to be the best tasting thing, but at least it doesn't leave you feeling bloated and tired after eating it like meat does.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:10:49 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                            1. @renovatedkitchen I love raw potatoes and have since I was a kid. When mom was cooking potatoes she'd have to peel one just for me so I wouldn't steal stuff off the cutting board

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:16:21 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                              1. @flaredancer lol. I know what you mean. Sometimes my mom will try to bake something. She'll start cutting fruit, and I'll slowly eat it while keeping her distracted with conversation. I also like eating raw mushrooms. I have no idea why.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:20:16 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                1. @renovatedkitchen I can't do mushrooms. Well, I can eat shitake, but not raw. My friend makes an awesome miso soup for when you're sick; it's got shitake mushrooms in it. They're excellent for your immune system.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:26:24 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                                  1. @flaredancer hmm. That I didn't know. Gonna try to eat a raw potato later. Have actually never tried it. Does this soup help?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:31:43 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                    1. @renovatedkitchen Yeah, it does. And it's tasty :d

                                                      1. @flaredancer hmm. Your friend want to share this recipie?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:39:07 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                        1. @renovatedkitchen She keeps telling it to me and I keep forgetting. I think it's a wild and brown rice mix, carrots, celery, tofu, shitake mushrooms, broccoli, onions... maybe some other veggies and red miso paste to taste. If you have a fever you can make it spicy, too, by adding cayenne, I think. It'll help you break the fever, I guess. If I'm remembering correctly.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:58:51 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                                          1. @flaredancer took a screenie. I guess you wouldn't know the ratio's or amount of water/broth to add?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:08:10 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                            1. @renovatedkitchen Well, rice is rice. You cook it like so. And I dunno the rest. I think you boil the veggies & tofu is whatever you feel would make you food.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:16:00 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                                              1. @flaredancer okay. I'll have to give it a try. It actually reminds me of a soup we got from a flight once for some reason. It was really good.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:24:24 UTC from StatusNet iPhone

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:39:17 UTC from IdentiCurse

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:40:21 UTC from web

                                        2. @renovatedkitchen Not really. There's a reason why when fire was discovered, people started to live more.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:09:15 UTC from web
                                          1. @nerthos well, ya. But that doesn't mean you have to use fire to cook your food. It gets rid of the nutrients. So what was the point of eating it if it didn't even help you.

                                            1. @renovatedkitchen It might remove /some/ nutirents, but still, killing all the bacteria and parasites that could kill you makes the whole thing worth it.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:13:32 UTC from web
                                              1. @nerthos but that's why one washes their food before eating it.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:15:42 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                1. @renovatedkitchen There's lots of things you can't kill by sawhing stuff, without making it unedible by adding chemicals to it.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:16:47 UTC from web
                                                  1. @nerthos do you know how many chemicals are in meat? Do you know what they do to chickens and even the crops that end up in your local store?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:21:30 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                    1. @renovatedkitchen Are you joking? This thing has devolved to a weird vegetarian guy trying to impose his toughts over others. I don't have a problem with talking about this stuff, but if you're just going to restort to that... well, let's say I choose to avoid it.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:23:27 UTC from web
                                                      1. @nerthos I am not a vegetarian in the slightest. Im just saying that raw food is much healthier for you. I'm very sorry if it seemed like I was trying to impose this on any one. Really.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:28:28 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                        1. @renovatedkitchen Oh well. I eat whatever I find nice or tasty. I have no allergies, and my body can take pretty much everything. If I'm able to counter any consequences it could have, then I don't have to worry.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:31:41 UTC from web

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:35:34 UTC from StatusNet iPhone

                                              1. @nerthos so you're telling me a raw pecan pie that tastes just like the cooked counter part is without variety?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:16:18 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                1. @renovatedkitchen No, you're making weird assumptions, that I don't have the slightest idea how you tought of.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:17:47 UTC from web
                                                  1. @nerthos If I can make some awesome dish of uncooked stuff taste amazing, I'm sure that requires a lot more skill than throwing bacon and oil onto a pan.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:23:33 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                    1. @renovatedkitchen See what I'm talking about? You're a zealot, you don't want to show the pros of your ways, you just see me as the enemy and want too convert me to your religion.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:25:19 UTC from web
                                                      1. @nerthos you're not the enemy at all. Te only meat I try to avoid is chicken, for medical reasons. Once again, I'm really sorry if I came off as pushy or anything. I was merely trying to tell you about raw food.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:30:43 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
          3. @flaredancer and thank you! I am really happy to see it turn on. I really want to buy another toughbook, but that will have to wait for a while. Me and this computer have been through so much too. Lol. I was expecting it to be broken for sure!

    2. @greydragon412 I'm not putting down cooked meat at all. I love it. But about chicken, if I eat a couple from a fast food place, I will die, because I have intense allergies to one of the growth hormones they use in it. Also the same hormone they used to use in medications for ear infections. The organic chicken I'm good with though.

    3. @darkw00d meh. It's something I get used to. I know if I've eaten too much of it and get a warning from me. Ears start to ring, I get dizzy and all those kinds of things.

    4. @greydragon412 It okay. Chicken is pretty nice.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:34:35 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    5. @darkw00d I think so. Also in ear medication. I forget what it's called. I could find it out and tell you later. I'm just too lazy to remember what it is. Just know that it's used as a hormone for chickens.

    6. @greydragon412 lol. I guess. I just don't really like it's counter part. Turkey.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:40:39 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    7. @darkw00d no. It's in the "feed" that they give the chickens. So yep. Organic chickens I can stuff my face with :)

    8. @greydragon412 but...but... It's do dry most of the time.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:43:42 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    9. @darkw00d lol. I know. Chicken is great. I would still eat it, just couldn't eat a lot of it.

    10. @greydragon412 breaded turkey. Like from a deli?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:49:12 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    11. @greydragon412 ah. Kk. So like at the frozen food section?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 19:52:40 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    12. @greydragon412 I guess I will pick some up if I remember too. Unless I get some for free from a flight, which is very likely. But a lot of breaded things taste awesome.

    13. @greydragon412 sandwiches are okay. But sometimes theres a bit too much bread. And sometimes they get soggy and all.

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:09:11 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    14. @greydragon412 :). I can tell bread is amazing when you make it yourself. Have you ever made your own bread?

Thursday, 19-Apr-12 20:12:02 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    15. @greydragon412 maybe they have better bread there, but when I made bread, it turned out amazing! The one time I could actually just sit down and eat a load of it.
