@yawlo HOLY CRAP THIS WEBSITE IS AWESOME.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:05:39 UTC from web -
@yawlo what exactly is this wall of diatrics?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:11:44 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual A sample of the latin system I developed for my constructed language. I might be the only one who can read it as it's written.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:12:40 UTC from web-
@yawlo constructed language?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:13:52 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Yeah, something I created (well still working on it).
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:15:01 UTC from web-
@yawlo that genuinely interests me. How do you go about it? Is there a formula to it? Sorry i'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to languages.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:16:29 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Well that makes two of us! I started like 15 years ago, just making up words in my head, learning construction of other languages. It's gone through a hell of a lot of changes since then, the more I learn about how words and grammatical anomalies are formed. This is a language well based on the Altaic family, mostly from basic words and grammar.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:19:03 UTC from web-
@yawlo the biggest shock I had when learning a new language was when I first started studying Japanese. I had learned a couple germanic and romantic languages as well as a little bit of slavic languages and all had some differences in grammar and sentence structure but nothing could compare me for Japanese. The word order is very different and very fascenating.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:21:53 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I had been raised around Russian, Georgian, Abkhaz and a little Uzbek here and there, 4 languages further apart from eachother in the same region you couldn't find easily. Since Slavic/Romantic/Germanic are all part of the Indo-European family they share striking similarities. Japanese, although, is pretty much standalone. Linguists had tried to pin it to the Altaic family but that theory has been debunked several times over.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:24:24 UTC from web-
@yawlo one of my favorite languages is Korean because one day they sat down and made the official alphabet
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:25:42 UTC from web-
@rarity One of only 14 original writing systems of the world's spoken languages!
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:26:45 UTC from web-
@yawlo its so clever and ingenious and /pretty/
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:27:39 UTC from web-
@rarity It's syllabic from my understanding, like Hindi (devanagari) and it's other forms. Then again I only looked at Korean briefly.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:31:24 UTC from web-
@yawlo mhm! Its actually extremely simple. You could learn the alphabet in an afternoon
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:32:28 UTC from web-
@rarity (learn apzeka pls)
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:33:05 UTC from web-
What's that though @yawlo
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:33:53 UTC from web-
@rarity my script Nico
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:34:39 UTC from web-
@yawlo ohhhh
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:35:06 UTC from web-
@rarity It's pretty easy when you get past the fluid writing (plus it's not easily tailored to anything else).

@yawlo which is partly why it interests me. It's a unique language which is suprisingly hard to come by.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:27:30 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Even after such heavy sino-tibetan influence they managed not only to keep their own culture, but their own linguistic identity. (mostly because of their natural barriers).
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:29:29 UTC from web-
@yawlo and yet they still use chopsticks.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:30:08 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Being an island didn't keep them cut off from foreign influence forever.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:32:08 UTC from web-
@yawlo have you seen their population demographic? I'm pretty sure the U.S. Military in Okinawa makes for half the non Japanese in the country.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:33:15 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual That is pretty dang cool, glad at least one country of the world can keep from a flux of severe foreign influence (well if internet's something to base off of they're influencing the rest of us)
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:34:26 UTC from web-
@yawlo well that's not entirely true. Ever since US occupation they've changed hugely. There are plenty of America-philes in Japan and McDonalds is a popular place for kids to go after school.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:36:18 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual That's rather inevitable, kind of like after peresroika America-philia was felt in the Soviet Union, or to a much larger extent than it was (or actually just talked about aloud).
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:37:34 UTC from web-
@yawlo For a country who's culture is entirely founded on imitating other cultures, America does a great job of getting foreigners to try to imitate it.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:39:21 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Yes, their ilk is now worldwide. When I was in Italy McDonalds was the number 1 hiring force in the country. Scary.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:40:24 UTC from web-
@yawlo that is in part due to the fact that no one is currently hiring in Italy.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:41:25 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Advantageous of course. Not that the McDonalds in Italy (or any other country) is a clone of the American ones, not in the least.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:42:21 UTC from web-
@yawlo do you know what they call a Big Mac in France?

Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:50:55 UTC from web-
@scoot Oh. Films that are rated 18 over there are typically R (17) over here. In any case, what was the film?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:51:53 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation It's called Pulp Fiction.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:52:19 UTC from web-
@scoot Oh, Tarantino. I haven't seen the film itself, but I know OF it.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:53:59 UTC from web-

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual What do they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:44:42 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal you're right. I messed up the line.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:46:40 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual It's okay, the reference alone made me laugh.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:48:17 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal i don't think it's refrenced nearly enough considering the quality of the source material.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:48:55 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual True, most people use the "say what again" quotation more than anything else. But yes, Pulp Fiction is gold. Very quotable but also very well written and directed.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:50:23 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal as a movie connoisseur Pulp Fiction being on my must watch list means it had better be damn good.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:53:53 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual so, does the begining of this http://ur1.ca/gb5ze say " Dont give up on your dreams, dont give up on trying, a future only yours is sure to become true" or something like this?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:54:56 UTC from web-
@mushi something like that. It's less "don't give up" and more "you can see". It's a more go out and get it attitude.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:57:20 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual oh, ok, thank you

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual weeeeee! (i tried the rest of the song, but it was getting more and more complicated
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:12:24 UTC from web-
@mushi it's funny I was thinking that while listening to it and when I was stumbling with some of the dialogue in meruru some of the words that children learn at a young age that aforeigner studying the language would never think of. For example shooting star I only was able to understand due to the context of good luck and knowing 星
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:14:21 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual what is "星" ? also, it is complicated, i though otogi and hanashi were separated words and i thought that'd mean "in company of a conversation" based on the meaning of otogi i found on jisho.org
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:17:01 UTC from web-

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I'm more of a casual movie watcher but I'd like to think I know a great movie when I watch one and Pulp Fiction is really damn great. What are some other titles on your must watch list?
Friday, 03-Jan-14 02:55:37 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal the godfather. Shawshank redemption. Casa Blanca. There's more but the one I do want to say although not particularly high up their is Barefoot Gen not so much for quality but as an eyeopener due to the content of the film.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:00:05 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I've seen the first 3 but not that last one. Casa Blanca is one of my dad's 2 favourite films of all time, the other one being The Wizard of Oz. Godfather and Shawshank are both musts for any movie fan.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:03:22 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal *spoiler alert* nobody has seen the last one.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:04:38 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual That doesn't surprise me, the name isn't familiar in the slightest.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:06:23 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal which is why I thought it deserved special mention. I could have gone on with my list but most have already heard of them at least. Barefoot Gen is not very well known so I thought I'd share it.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:07:33 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I'm looking into it right now. Seems pretty enjoyable actually. The only anime films I've seen are most of the ones by Studio Ghibli and Akira.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:10:12 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal well, enjoyable may not be the word I'd use to describe it it's definately a damn good film. Considering that it made it on my list and the far more popular "Spirited Away" and "Grave of the Fireflies" didn't should say something though.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:11:55 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Well, I use enjoyable in the very broad sense of the term, as in something I can watch that I will subsequently hold in high regard. Also, I love Grave of the Fireflies, so I'll probably have high expectations going in.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:14:59 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I hate to go into a movie with any expectations. It may just be me but it's not a fear of "dissapointment" so much as I want to go into the movie to experience it on it's own and draw my conclusion from that. That way the movie can stand on it's own merit.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:18:27 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I like to keep an open mind but it's really a natural thing to do. I understand how expectations can sort of soil the experience but to me expectations are less about the quality of the movie and more about what I think I'm going to get out of it. Like, if I go to see a comedy movie I expect to watch jokes and gags I can laugh at, and if I go to see an action film I expect to be kept on the edge of my seat through fast sequences and pacing.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:24:57 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal you'd like Madoka. It's pretty moe.
Friday, 03-Jan-14 03:28:14 UTC from web-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual The thing about anime and I is that it's sort of a "ten-foot-pole" relationship in the sense that I'll occasionally sit down and watch some anime series or movie but I've never really been a serious anime fan. I'm not really into the "little girls blowing the murdock out of stuff and being badass" genre either, but I've yet to watch it so I'll withhold any further criticisms I may have.
