People telling an artist to stop using Apple products. RDN everybody.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:19:01 UTC from web-
@scoot I'd be using an iMac if I had money. Mostly because they're shiny but also just because OSX is such a nicer interface than Windows.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:19:52 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation As soon as I got comfortable in OSX I started using it almost exclusively

@scoot I never understood why they're so popular among artsy dudes. Any particular periferic or software makes them worth it?
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:20:35 UTC from web-
@nerthos Artists are typically bad at keeping money around
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:21:48 UTC from web-
@redenchilada That genuinely made me laugh

@nerthos I know for music, Logic Pro is in the top 2 or 3 production softwares. And aside from the fancy resolution displays IIRC there a specialized programs for the OS
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:22:19 UTC from web -
@nerthos First and foremost, Adobe is just so much nicer with Apple (even if Apple does ass-backwards things and doesn't return the favor). Plus, Apple has a bunch of in-house software like Final Cut and Logic.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:22:56 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation What do those two programs do?
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:28:08 UTC from web-
@nerthos Final Cut is a video editing and compositing software used in most professional studios. Ditto for Logic, except for music. They're both really nice to use.

@nerthos Literally no unneeded baggage. It's clean and crisp and nicely designed, which I appreciate a whole bunch. This new Retina thing is very good for artists as well, I can work really closely and intricately and not lose clarity of the image. Also for whatever reason Photoshop loads much faster on OSX than on Windows for me
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:23:38 UTC from web-
@scoot So basically aesthetics and display. Photoshop loads in about 4-6 seconds on my desktop, and like 8-10 on my netbook.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:26:55 UTC from web-
@nerthos There is no delay to Photoshop loading on my Mac. I click the button and it's open, I'm sure there are other good reasons (Adobe and Apple seem to be friends) but those are some of the reasons I like it
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:28:41 UTC from web-
@scoot It probably keeps a background process running with the basics of the adobe suite then. I think that can be done on windows too but I use the program a ouple times a year so it's not really worth it for me.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:31:14 UTC from web-
@nerthos I have no idea to be honest. As far as I'm concerned it just works.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:32:17 UTC from web-
@scoot @mrmattimation Oh, BTW, I'm looking to buy a new graphic tablet. Any particular models that I should look for?
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:33:54 UTC from web-
@nerthos I heard the Intuos is pretty good.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:34:54 UTC from web -
@nerthos http://pny.lv/g28 It's pricey, but there are lower-end Intuos models for under 100 bucks as well.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:36:16 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Seems too fancy for the use I'll give it
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:37:45 UTC from web-
@nerthos Check out the Intuos Pen, then. http://pny.lv/g29
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:38:48 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Is the cursor relative to the overall position of the pen on the tablet, or to the movement done with the pen? My biggest issue with tablets was always the fact that I can't rotate them around like I do with paper
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:42:41 UTC from web-
@nerthos Both. You can change it in the settings.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:55:44 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Cool.

@nerthos I've had good experience with a Wacom Bamboo Splash. $80 for a simple no-frills tablet. There are probably some cheaper brands too.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:39:33 UTC from web -
@nerthos I've only ever used Wacom's entry-tier stuff like the Splash and had no issues. It's very basic but it works fine if you're not used to Cintiqs and such
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:42:19 UTC from web-
@scoot I don't even know what a cintiqs is
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:43:02 UTC from web-
@nerthos A Cintiq is the big screens you can draw onto
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:43:48 UTC from web-
@scoot So basically a monitor built into the tablet?
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:44:52 UTC from web-
@nerthos It's more like a monitor that you can draw on with a tablet pen, they're pretty huge too.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:45:54 UTC from web-
@scoot Sounds too fancy to be practical
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:46:36 UTC from web-
@nerthos I assure you that you would not say that if you used one
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:47:17 UTC from web-
@scoot Maybe. I just know drawing will never be worth £1000 for me.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:49:44 UTC from web-
@nerthos I'm in the same boat. I have historically made little to no money on any drawing I've ever made. I chalk the whole art form up to a complete loss that I just do from the heart because I enjoy it. *shrugs*
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:51:12 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I never made money from drawings nor I intend to. I like to do other more profitable stuff for money. Plus I couldn't stand drawing constantly.

@nerthos Well no, I see no reason to purchase one nor do I advocate it. I was saying unless you're used to those, a good little tablet like the Splash should be fine

@scoot Me want Cintiq.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:45:02 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet They're over £1000 here so they must be around $1700~
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:45:30 UTC from web-
@scoot Yeah. I just said I wanted one. Not that I could afford one. XD
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:46:39 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Haha yeah, most artists /want/ one :)

@nerthos It's probably more likely that his load times are so fast because MacBooks come standard with an SSD now. It's something that doesn't excite me because now the drive space is smaller, but I guess if you keep an external around that really isn't a problem.
Thursday, 30-Jan-14 03:32:59 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Load times on that kind of program aren't affected that much by the disk drives.
