When my dad and I are with each other, we don't really talk much. And we don't really have to. We could spend hours just watching The Simpsons, not saying a word to each other. And somehow, that's a good time for us.

@mrmattimation I wish I had that with my dad, or something like that.

@northernnarwhal My father and I have a better relationship than most and it's something I've learned to appreciate greatly.

@mrmattimation That's really cool, you seldom see that these days and when you do it's really beautiful.

@northernnarwhal When I was a kid I felt like he worked too often because I really didn't understand how the world works, but as I got older I started to realize that he works so hard so that his family doesn't have to. I was born when my parents were 20 and 21, and neither of them had a penny to their name -- I spent the first few years of my life in a tiny crappy apartment on a golf course in Florida -- and it's because he worked so hard that I've got the life I have now.

@mrmattimation My parents actually had me pretty late (my father is almost 60) but they pretty much lived and breathed their jobs (and still do). I'm not complaining though, I had a happy and privileged upbringing that many will never have. But I guess my parents were just working at that point to afford all the luxuries in life they didn't have growing up, which I can't blame them for, but I guess the point I'm getting to is that I've always been a bit distant from my folks and I'm okay with that now. Or so I hope.
