Seth MacFarlane majored in animation, and he can't even draw his own characters anymore. Matt Groening is personally ensuring that his characters stay as mechanical as possible (he described a test animation for the HD intro of The Simpsons, according to one employee, as "too cartoony"), Daniel Tosh's "Brickleberry" looks like the interns are using GoAnimate... I admire J.G. Quintel for his direction on Regular Show. Cartoon Network offered to give them a bunch of technology and stuff to get the show done, and he told them "no, we're doing this the old way" and to this day the show is still animated on paper.

@mrmattimation J.G. Quintel is awesome, you can clearly see he treats Regular Show with a lot of respect and wants to grow alongside his art. Plus from interviews he seems like a really cool dude.

@northernnarwhal He's similar to Seth MacFarlane in that he got his first animation jobs pretty much right out of college and was offered a TV show while he was fairly young, but unlike MacFarlane he appears to actually care about his creation.

@mrmattimation Seth does not care about his creations ? Isn't that a good thing ?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:09:45 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker ...no? When has that ever been a good thing?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:11:49 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Well, George Lucas cares about his stuff a lot and he re-released his stuff more than I care to remember... Also Family guy has been renewed for season 13. It's also sort of refreshing to see someone actually kill off one of his main toons in the series ... Heck even downright funny to see some plebs get Brian tatoo's on their body at that... Whereas Futurama only lasted 7 seasons ( still sort of sad at that though ) ... ... ... So yea, good thing, bad thing, I dunno, I know I am laughing at that stuff from time to time, and then there are the things like the abeforementioned brian tatoo spree... Yea I like it
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:16:52 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker It was never their intention to kill Brian off permanently in the first place. It was a publicity stunt.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:17:57 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation And it worked. Guess that means Seth is happy with it ?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:19:43 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker With the money he got? Yes, he is. That doesn't make it a good thing to not care about your work. That's asinine.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:20:53 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation same have been said about the Rules of Acquisition of the Ferengi... Does not matter though, he has money, while at the same time here we are, on RDN having a debate on how foolish he either is or isn't. quite average-joe penniless *shrug*
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:24:32 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker I'm not saying he's foolish, I'm saying he's a huge sellout.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:24:59 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation What did he sell out exactly ? His creation ? I doubt that will make him lose a second of sleep
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:27:28 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker I don't think you quite understand. I'm not trying to argue whether or not Seth MacFarlane is happy with his business decisions. He very clearly is. I'm just saying, he's a huge sellout.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:28:48 UTC from web -
@critialcloudkicker Your missing his point, he's not gonna lose sleep over it because he knows full well what he's doing. What he's saying is that Seth has compromised the integrity of his work for the sake of profit and popularity.

@critialcloudkicker How is not caring about your creations a good things? Wouldn't you want to ensure the quality of your work?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:12:13 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Agreed.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:13:28 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I'd figure that's common sense.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:14:36 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal There are actually many artists who don't care and just create whatever they're asked for money because they're just "technically" good at it, not because it was their brainchild.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:16:58 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet That's pretty much selling out.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:23:59 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Think of FX artists in Hollywood. They're sculpting for execs, producers, and directors...Their work has to be whatever the client wants, and really? That's actually a necessity in this world, so they serve a great purpose, even if some consider it "selling out." In the 80s, FX artists were almost like rock stars and they made a papayasload of money sometimes...so...I mean, it's a valid thing.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:36:01 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet That's true, I guess in that sense selling out takes a new meaning. Though when someone sees a Micheal Bay film they usually don't call out the FX producers for being hacks, they're more concerned with Micheal Bay being a soulless hack with no artistic direction.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:41:42 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Well Michael Bay is in a class of crap all his own. There is literally like, almost not a comparison. Maybe that guy who made the Wild Wild West movie...
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:43:28 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Yeah, what I mean is he definitely has a talented team of special effects producers, just that he himself isn't talented.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:44:55 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Amongst my friends, me, and a LOT of my acquaintances merely see Michael Bay as a running gag of bad movies at this point. "We'll nab it on netflix in 2 months and take a shot everytime something really dumb happens or explodes" is the general concensus amongst some of them everytime a new movie with his name under it releases... And when they go low on Bay movies they just find themselves a B-rated movie... I heard that they get a lot drunker off of Bay movies though ( I should really join them for when they go see TMNT )
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:51:44 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker If I made a drinking game out of Micheal Bay films I'd get alcohol poisoning faster than you could say "explosions everywhere"
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:55:13 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Maybe your taste is a lot better than half drunken veterans aged 55+ ... I would not be surprised at that actually
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:57:11 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker In fact I would be surprised at the opposite
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:57:40 UTC from web -
@critialcloudkicker I don't like to claim I have the best taste in movies or television but I like to at least have some standards for what I watch
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:58:57 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Meanwhile I have the intelligence to actually finish what I try to start... I actually saw all of this crap http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476918/ ... ... ... And I am in the middle of S01 of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460637/ ( I am really thinking about dropping that though... The first 7 episodes remind me of my own childhood, a bit, but now it just keeps on nagging )
Monday, 17-Nov-14 01:01:05 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker ... What is the opposite of intelligence, probably mixxed with hard headedness or stubbornness ? ... Detelligent ?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 01:01:47 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker Idiocy would be a good word
Monday, 17-Nov-14 01:02:19 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I kinda can't take "It's really REALLY bad" as an answer though, I have to see it for myself... Soo... Curious idiot ?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 01:05:27 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker That works

@northernnarwhal If you could only choose 1 between "caring about your work" and "making profit" ... Yeap, Seth is a powerplayer who chose "making profit" ( big surprise ) ... is that bad ? No, but you should keep that in mind before you get into it's stuff
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:18:52 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker It's possible to accomplish both, and it's kinda sad you don't see a problem with artists throwing their integrity and commitment to their audience out the window for the sake of profit.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:21:49 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal You misunderstand. Let me ask you something. When you know an ordinary 6 sided dice is loaded on the 1 side ( so it has a 2 times as big chance to land with the 6 face up ) ... Knowing this, is using the dice still considdered cheating ? Everyone knows the odds of rolling a 6 up front ( 1 in 6 to roll a 1, 1 in 6 to roll a 2, yadda yadda yadda, 2 in 6 to roll a 6 )
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:26:34 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker What's your point, that since everyone knows Family Guy has become garbage that this somehow justifies it?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:28:26 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal My point is that when someone is playing with his hand/tactics open on the table you can't go around pointing fingers "ohmygoshyouguysdoyouknowwhathedonedid ?!?"
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:29:27 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker Yeah, but him not hiding that he's a sellout doesn't excuse that he's a sellout.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:30:09 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal So you have a problem with people whom sell out on your ideology ?
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:32:23 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker You don't? Don't you care about the quality of things you enjoy at all>
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:32:46 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I do not see how I should be held up to YOUR standards at all
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:35:32 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker You're continually missing the point. I don't feel like talking to a wall tonight.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:37:24 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I guess I am missing your point. I appologise for any inconvenience at that. But I would like to point out that whenever I would have been given the choice between "treat your own creations like a tool to get more money than you could ever dream of" or "keep your integrity of your original work"... I have to ask myself, what is the worth of the original integrity of my work, and how does it hold up against the stuff I could possibly make at a later date ? ... Looks like Seth made his choice. And this is ohkay in my eyes since he is not even trying to hide the fact that he does. ( just like a popular youtuber diclaiming in front of his video that it was a promotional thing, ofcourse that means he is going to be a little bit biassed people... think... )
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:42:16 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker I just don't think art should be trivialized as a business and I'm leaving it at that.
Monday, 17-Nov-14 00:43:45 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Ahh, then I understand your point of view. it already was obvious that I do not really share that vision
