When you're driving a Volkswagen Beetle, you're driving a car that had its roots in Nazi Germany. Hitler himself commissioned the first model from Porshe in 1934 because he felt the German people needed a cheap, simple car to get around in. Unfortunately, he would not live to see it mass-produced; plans were put on hold so that resources could be devoted to the war effort and the Beetle was not produced in large numbers until 1945. http://rainbowdash.net/url/819079

@mrmattimation did you know that porsche produced a whole line of tanks that germany could have purchased but another company (Mercedes i believe) got the contract instead.

@rednorth Nope, Mercedes didn't produce tanks, BUT Hitler did drive a Mercedes with a bullet proof windshield.

@rednorth You are right about Porshe though, the company they lost out to was Henschel & Son, which made planes, trains, and automobiles.
