@maiyannah I have nothing against the FSF's preferred term, but "Linux" is more commonly used plus it doesn't require as much typing.

@normandy Personally I find it a bit pretentious. If we were to go the route of GNU+Linux because GNU isn't the kernel, that makes my system something like
GNU+Linux+initd+grub+apache+php-fpm+mysql+prosody+exim+dovecot-
@maiyannah I have a script that will give you the name of your system in that format. Just needs you to export your installed package list in a plain text file.

I don’t know what initd you’re talking about, but grub is part of GNU project and apache/mysql/todayshipsterpreferredlanguage are not required for an OS to function. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/36460

@tijagi @maiyannah Ultimately I really don't mind people calling it GNU/Linux, but I'll just continue to call it Linux regardless of how others feel about it.

@normandy I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.Wednesday, 01-Jun-16 07:35:55 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark @normandy I don't type GNU/Linux mainly becase I'm lazy (and also because Burce Sterling, put me off saying GNU in 2006 ". I used to complain that GNU had the wrong name, because the recursive name for GNU is GNU’s Not Unix. And I describe that as rather childish, because you should not name yourself in opposition to something else, you should have your own name. It’s like, if GNU’s not Unix, what is it?" ...
