    1. @delores There's no secret really, you do or you don't. it's also really hard to enjoy it if you haven't played it when it wasn't relatively new.

      1. @nerthos @delores Imagine people who have only ever played Skyrim struggling to even get into Oblivion.

        2. @cyberpotato @nerthos hey i played oblivion, but oblivion is closer to skyrim than morrowind from my experience

          1. @delores @nerthos It's the midpoint, it loses some of the mechanics like hit chances and becomes a bit more gamey, tho it still has stats for running and jumping and the balls to the wall magic crafting.

Skyrim simplified almost everything into the dirt, if they ever do a TESVI it'll  be "Press F to win".

          2. @delores @cyberpotato As potato pointed out, it's a mid point. It still has stats, actual level progression that you have to be careful with and plan ahead if you want a powerful character, and a lot of options, though not as many as previous games; but it also has user-friendly combat, map quest markers and a bunch more stuff to make it more approachable by somewhat casual players. It's something you can pick up and get the hang of even if you haven't played any proper RPGs. Morrowind you're mostly on your own in the world and the combat mechanics are bad, even if creative.

      2. @nerthos @delores not true. evidence: me, didn't play it til 2013 or so

        1. @why I was talking in general. You're really used to old games which makes it easier for you than for a new player. I played it after playing oblivion and still enjoyed it. Plus you're full autism when it comes to vidya.

            1. @why @nerthos @delores There are a few areas where it's just ridiculous though.

    2. @delores @camby it's a role playing game, in the essence of the word. your character's stats define your character, not the player's skill. the miss-miss-miss combat of the first few levels is a good example of this: your character misses, since the player's aim+input only executes the "attack", everything else (including hit/miss) is decided based off your character's numbers. of course, these numbers can be improved through your character practicing, or roll a better start (maximize agility and have full stamina to minimize misses)
story-wise, the same is applied. the world is complete, and the lore (books, conversations, etc) is there to allow you to study that world under scrutiny. it's not necessary to understand the story, but the story is enhanced by the lore. there's no problem with completely dismissing all books you come across.

is there anything specific that's putting you off? i bananaing love this game but hold no nostalgia towards it

      1. @why @camby the missing every swing in every fight mostly. i think im gonna pay someone to train my weapon skills, because i dont think they go up by killing things. also the super small hud mixed with 6 trillion dialog options makes it truly suffering

        1. @delores missing is increased by having low fatigue, so bring a couple restore fatigue potions with you before battle, or don't run constantly. also, agility governs how much you hit/miss, so reroll your character to prioritize it and strength. training only goes so far, and won't give you a very noticeable boost. this will all get better after a couple level ups, which can be gained without getting into combat. experience is gained by using your skills, so hitting an enemy with a short sword will automatically give you experience for that skill. if your major/minor skills level up 10 times, you get a level up (where you can increase attributes). this again goes into the character roll: pick major/minor skills you're going to use constantly, like block, a certain weapon type, athletics fighter's guild's first few quests are a good tutorial, and helps you earn exp. do as much as you can asap hud and dialog are things you just have to get used to,
