Also, Mike Pence was the VP in the episode, which made sense given the storyline, but in-universe Caitlyn Jenner was elected on the Garrison ticket (was instrumental in the election, even)

@mrmattimation I debate once in awhile whether or not to get back into South Park; I think I stopped watching since season 14. Looks like I'd have to backtrack a lot if they're more episodic from then.

@awl Their current format sort of started in the eighteenth season but season 19 is the one you'd actually have to start from if you wanted to watch it for the story. Every plot element from 18 and prior is moot, but two of the storylines from season 19 (the school's new principal & Mr. Garrison's presidential campaign and eventual election) continued into 20, which itself introduced a Cartman-centric story arc that still continues today.

@mrmattimation @awl and i guess Mr. Garrison's presidency is its own arc again, although that one didn't get any attention until halfway through the current season
-
@mrmattimation Huh. Come to think of it I think I stopped at 17 so I'd probably just pick up at 19. I remember liking when they went continued plot lines. Obviously they liked doing that as well.
-
@awl They're doing it kind of weird this season. The first two episodes formed a loose arc (in that the B-plots of both episodes revolved around Cartman and Heidi Turner, while the A-plots were unconnected and revolved around Randy and Tweek, respectively), then they ignored it for a few episodes, besides one quick joke in the fourth episode, then episode 6 re-introduced Mr. Garrison as a character and also went back to the Cartman/Heidi story, and episode 7 (last night's episode) continued what was put down in episode 6 and the ending was left pretty open ended, so I guess they're just going full-blow serialized again.
-
@mrmattimation Sounds like they had ideas on the back burner.

@awl Mr. Garrison is the darkhorse of serialization, I've noticed. Whenever he's in focus the show suddenly has a plot.
