So, I installed a program on the work computer that changes the wallpaper every hour. This should be a nice surprise to the morning people http://ur1.ca/by6ug

@renovatedkitchen But why?
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:06:08 UTC from web-
@abigpony why not? Before I leave, im gonna find a better picture of Lemongrab and post "This company is in unacceptable condition!"

@renovatedkitchen Renovated: 10 years unemployment dungeon

@abigpony lol. They are so computer illiterate here, it's hard to not laugh.
-
@renovatedkitchen I'm learning to be computer literate. ;-;
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:18:40 UTC from web-
@dlcentaur how computer illiterate are you to begin with?
-
@renovatedkitchen I have a MAC.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:20:32 UTC from web-
@dlcentaur I'm computer literate and I love Macs nothing wrong with that
-
@renovatedkitchen Blegh. Macs are sleek and long lasting, but their capabilities are... less than adequate.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:23:15 UTC from web-
@dlcentaur It's just their compatibility issues that really holds them back.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:24:10 UTC from web-
@zeldatra That's what I meant.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:25:59 UTC from web-
@dlcentaur This can easily be fixed if you run Windows using Bootcamp for any programs that don't work on your Mac.

@dlcentaur mac is just a pretty linux
-
@renovatedkitchen In a way yes, and in a way no. Close, but... oh so different.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:26:18 UTC from web-
@dlcentaur I'd rather mac than Linux. I love their OS

@dlcentaur Macs are only OK if you need them for work. Otherwise they're just overpriced pieces of aesthetically stylized crap. Living on a name, not actual quality. Mac was great in the 80s and 90s, but now it's just crap.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:28:27 UTC from web-
@nerthos So because of their price, Macs are unacceptable?
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:32:15 UTC from web-
@zeldatra No, because they're crap when it comes to hardware, have lots of compatibility issues, are poorly assembled, and idiots pay lots of money for them. Like I said, the only good reason to buying one is work.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:33:42 UTC from web-
@nerthos "Poorly assembled?" I'm not disagreeing on compatibility issues. But where did that come from?
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:35:20 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Parts of them are usually glued. /glued/.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:36:01 UTC from web-
@nerthos ...what.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:37:00 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Apple is a big fan of gluing stuff instead of wasting five minutes assembling a proper lock.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:37:39 UTC from web-
@nerthos @widget Ok, wow. I myself used to use Macs and both of my friends commonly use iMacs, and they never broke down. Either we've been lucky or you guys are unlucky.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:41:26 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I'm not unlucky, I just plain steer away from poorly made things. No matter if it's painted in gold, a rotten apple is still rotten.

@widget I mean I love the mac OS. But how isn't Linux an operating system?
-
@renovatedkitchen Linux is the kernel. The operating system is what you build around that kernel. There are many different operating systems that use the Linux kernel.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:31:46 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel ah. Gotcha. Like redhat, Ubuntu, yada, yada all work off the Linux kernel
-
@renovatedkitchen yeah
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:34:11 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Neato. Thanks :). So why doesn't windows use the Linux kernel? Or redesign their kernel, again to find something more efficient?
-
@renovatedkitchen Windows use its own proprietary kernel developed by Microsoft. As for why they don't improve it? You'll have to ask them. My bet's on "it costs money and people already buy our product anyway so why should we care".
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:42:20 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Technical support is a good bussiness. Killing it would make no sense.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:42:59 UTC from web -
@toksyuryel that makes sense. So Macs don't use a Linux kernel, just something very similar?
-
@renovatedkitchen A Unix kernel, if I remember correctly. I could be completely wrong.
-
@renovatedkitchen Mac uses a BSD kernel I believe
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:44:31 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel iOS does, so I guess it's fairly likely other Macs will as well, but I'm not completely sure either.

@widget they design them to break. Always have to manually tweak the fan speed
-
@widget ...you mean PowerPC? Of course those suck. But they're old.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:43:08 UTC from web -
@widget I could have sworn Tiger ran on PowerPC. You talking the fat ones?
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:44:15 UTC from web -
@widget In any case, I'm talking about the fat ones two models ago.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:45:14 UTC from web -
@widget @toksyuryel mach kernel. I remember that now but is a BSD kernel. Lose to the Linux one?
-
@renovatedkitchen They are both ultimately derived from unix, but have very different histories and developers. The key similarities allow for things like POSIX-complete systems to run on any unix-like kernel though.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:48:38 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel so for someone who isn't interested in using a Linux based OS, would you recommend the mac OS (as a hackintosh) over a Windows?
-
@renovatedkitchen Nope, I would recommend a BSD! FreeBSD is the one I hear the most about.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:54:09 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel but if they wanted something for music editing, and such. Pretty much something that is more compatible?
-
@renovatedkitchen I don't know anything about that.

@widget The BSD kernel is also far more stable and secure.
Monday, 10-Dec-12 07:49:12 UTC from web -
@widget Is it just Ubuntu with extra software included?
-
@widget but can it run stuff like tractor pro and all those? Some of the big name ones are better as they are more refined.
-
@widget [c=green]>install an entire OS just to skip installing things through a package manager[/c]
Monday, 10-Dec-12 08:15:09 UTC from web -
@widget For the discerning lazy producer.
