@omni is there any program that someone might want to run on Windows that doesn't have a native equivalent?

@pony On Windows or Mac, that's possible: http://bluestacks.com/ (I think that's free as in beer, but not sure). On Linux, I would expect it to be possible (because we have parts of Android right in our kernel) but I haven't found a way yet.

@omni "Photoshop"? GIMP is not an equivalent, it's an alternative. :p As well as any of the Adobe Masters Suit really, I think.

@minti I know so many great Linux utilities that aren't native to Windows, but I don't know the names of them, so that doesn't really help a lot =/

@omni I know right. I love having anything maybe 20 keystrokes away, all packaged properly and ready to work on almost any system.

@minti @pony @omni Do they have to be GOOD replacements? Because Chocolatey (http://chocolatey.org/) is a package manager for Windows.

@pony Also there's only 500 packages available through it, and it's probably easier to get up to date versions of them and install them yourself.

@jla hmm.. 93 programs listed isn't many, though they are good ones and it does look decent other than being limited.

@pony I think it's more intended for setting up a new PC with your everyday apps, rather than being a total replacement.

@ceruleanspark There is a big problem with that, though: The databases will be limited and therefore it won't be able to keep everything up-to-date. Assuming you're running a decent Linux distribution, the repositories would be extremely big. I guess Windows 8 will fix this, though, assuming they actually get a big catalogue.
