Just finished updating and remodeling my site and I would love it if you guys could check it out and tell me what you think. http://evgamingnetwork.com/

@extremedash Nice, I like it.

@emperormiloth Thanks! I'm working on writing stuff and getting more people to help me keep it active at all times but it's pretty hard

@extremedash Looks slick, but it took a little bit to load the top five sliding bits on my end. Could be my machine, though, it's been a bit touchy since installing Debian. =/

@scribus yah I may be your comp but it can be that the site is a bit heavy on flash
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:41:47 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@extremedash Linux is derp with Flash, at times.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:44:45 UTC from web-
@scribus ayep, flash is bad in general though, but i know all too well how difficult linux can be
-
@elind85 Yeah, I'm sure looking forward to this HTML5 utopia we're being promised.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:49:42 UTC from web-
@scribus html5 is already here, it's just a matter of web devs switching over to it. I could talk all day about how bad flash is for web media. Eventually flash won't even be supported on most devices which will render it even more unstable than it already is
-
@elind85 Flash is horrible. Everything about flash is awful.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:55:26 UTC from web-
@engelhardt I use Flash for drawing, and I agree.
-
@engelhardt Go tell that to the FiM animators.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:57:15 UTC from web-
@starshine Flash for web applications is horrible! As an animation format, it's pretty awesome.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:58:22 UTC from web-
@engelhardt Still works better than HTML 5.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:00:42 UTC from web-
@starshine i don't think "works better" is the issue though. To companies that depend on SEO flash is totaly unusable. And as more and more merchants use ipads instead of computers, which don't support flash, web devs are really limiting there exposure
-
@elind85 Adobe's toolchain is easier to use. (although this has been reduced to a minor issue with the release of that Flash-to-HTML converter.) Flash supports webcams and microphones, renders on the sub-pixel level and is the same across all browsers and platforms. HTML5 gives none of that, and browser rendering incompatibilities often mean annoying hackarounds. Flash is also generally MUCH better optimized than HTML5 on most platforms. Mobile device tests on Android have shown Flash to run at least ten times as fast, and with lower CPU usage to boot. (thus less battery consumption, which is important!) The vast majority of web apps, games, video, and even enterprise development uses Flash in some way or another, because it runs everywhere and runs well. SEO-wise, Google can adequately index Flash sites and has been able to for years. Yahoo and Bing support Flash indexing as well.

@elind85 I can understand why you don't like Flash, I don't like it either, but the truth of the matter is, HTML5 still has a long way to go until it can replace Flash everywhere, and improvements have been slow to come. Meanwhile, Flash is still improving, especially in the emerging mobile device market. The only ones who aren't on the bandwagon are Apple.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:21:18 UTC from web-
@starshine Flash is a mega battery drainer on Android phones, but I have it set to only load flash based items on pages if I tell it to, and it's nice to have it to fall back on, to have the choice of whether or not to use it, that's one thing I hate about Apple, the word choice becomes a thing of the past with any of their products, it's like they own your tech and not you.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:24:57 UTC from web-
@leonkfox Sure it drains the battery, but if you convert a given Flash animation/app/whatever to HTML5 it'll end up draining it faster, and with lower framerate. :)
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:26:24 UTC from web-
@starshine Is it even possible to do that on a smart phone? o.O (Use HTML 5, I mean)

@starshine I know everyone hates to hear this but with some things Apple is what matters. Beyond the fact that microsoft has slowly been declining in usage for over a decade. Additionally, most young designers use apple computers, and most design schools primarely use apple computers. Apple is even beginning to creep into the business PC market, just ask @purpletinker what kind of computer she uses AT WORK. You could also look at the research about how more and more web content is being viewed on mobile devices, most of which don't support flash.
-
@elind85 And eventually they'll both be combined into a single system that -no one- will like...
-
@elind85 What mobile devices, aside from Apple, support HTML5 and not Flash? None that I'm aware of. Android has had full Flash support since 2.2 (and has had some support even back to 1.5), Maemo does Flash, as does Symbian, Windows Mobile / Phone 7, even WebOS and BlackBerry. It's not going away just because Apple says "no".
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:49:45 UTC from web-
@starshine BlackBerry OS doesn't support flash, does it? (Had a BlackBerry Curve 8520 before this HTC Desire Z, and I hear their top end device (The Torch) doesn't support flash either.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:52:49 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@leonkfox The PlayBook does. http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/certified_devices/ I believe they announced that they were going to roll out full support for Flash this year or something.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:55:08 UTC from web-
@starshine Oh, I wouldn't know, didn't follow the Playbook at all since I don't care much for tablet computers on the whole XD But yeah, I like having the option to use flash, even if I don't most of the time it's nice to be able to fall back on it.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:58:17 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@leonkfox I don't care either, but I pay attention to that sort of thing from the financial standpoint. It's interesting to watch the goofy things companies do.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 18:59:52 UTC from web-
@starshine I do follow some tech based YouTube channels and know when tablets come out etc, but I don't know any specifics about most of them. To me they're just overpriced netbooks without keyboards and have touch screens. For what tablets are able to do you might as well use a smart phone, less screen estate but more portable, and if you need a cheap PC like device ,just get...well, a net book, as I said.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 19:03:13 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@leonkfox #eeyup That's what I've been saying since before the iPad even existed, and I'm still saying it. I find the Atrix interesting though. Don't know why that hasn't caught on more yet.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 19:06:49 UTC from web-
@starshine Will look into it sometime. But yeah, glad to see I'm not alone on this. I mean I use an iPad, and I'm like "This is just a giant iPod Touch...why would I want this when I can put an iPod Touch in my pocket, but this needs a back pack?!" (If I were to buy either)

@elind85 Not everything, the fact that it's existence displeases Steve Jobs is of some merit.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:56:05 UTC from web-
@engelhardt it only displeases steve jobs because it's unstable and a cpu hog, he has valid reasons for disliking it

@scribus I wouldn't know lol I've never had Linux.
Tuesday, 05-Jul-11 17:48:21 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@extremedash Overall, I do prefer it to Windows or Mac, but it does seem to require a time investment.
