Let's talk about alicorn lore. Ever noticed they're all mares? Who took care of sun and moon before the princesses defeated Discord? I think they're created from regular ponies. And I wonder, is Twilight set up to become one? Also I wonder, Cadence was a teen when Twilight was a filly. Who were her parents/creators? I think you probably need one of each pony race to create an alicorn.

@kamikaze I'd love to see more about the alicorn origins in the series. Of course that would upset fanon, but I think most fans would still love it. I have a suspicion that the last "level of training" for Twilight Sparkle could be to become an alicorn. The first 2 episodes of season 3 have some hints anyway that bigger things are in store for Twilight, alicornhood or no..

@kamikaze According to Hearth's Warming Eve, the unicorns as a whole took care of the sun and moon.

@kamikaze reminds of of an interesting fic I read though where the method of alicorn reproduction was to "imbue" another pony with alicornhood.

@pony You said you do 3D stuff right? If I were to draw a 2D sketch of something like a Lava lamp, would that be easy for you to do?

@zeldatra I imagine a lava lamp would be pretty easy to model. animating it would also be alright depending on what you'd want it to do. Animating characters is also easy enough, but I'm no good at rigging and texturing. I never did get the hang of that.

@pony It would basically just be a transparent Gif of said lamp spinning slowly, and I would manipulate the direction it flies in Flash.

@zeldatra I'm alright with a little texturing. I really wish I'd gotten around to completing my rigging assignment when I took that class though since I now have no confidence with it

@zeldatra the thing is a lava lamp wouldn't require much rigging if any so that's not the issue really. THe issue is that I'm really rusty and school is starting Monday xP

@pony Now I wonder what they're good for at all. I mean they take care of winter wrapup in Canterlot, but that's obviously not obligatory.

@kamikaze right. I think the roles for each type of pony must have been much more clearly defined during the time before equestria, but once they began to live united those roles became much more flexible. I doubt Fluttershy would have ever been allowed to care for animals while the pegasi remained segregated from the non-flying ponies.

@pony Exceptions apart the pegasi still seem to form a very independent society.

@kamikaze Their role and weather ponies seems to be practically impossible for other ponies to take, but there's a good mix of pegasi living in Ponyville it seems, so I doubt they're too segregated.

@pony Note that fluttershy grew up without ever visiting the ground. And flying skill seems to be a mark of status among them. One that only pegasi can acquire. Whereas status is not tied to a specific ability for earth ponies or unicorns.

@kamikaze I see unicorn elitism in canon as clearly as I see it for pegasi I think, but I guess it depends on the city. Cloudsdale and Canterlot seem to be mainstays of pegasus and unicorn culture, tradition, etc. respectively, though Canterlot is obviously more accessible to other types of ponies. Still, so far unicorn royalty is unique to unicorns like flight is to pegasi. Earth ponies are really the humble lot it seems with a few exceptions like the Rich family perhaps.

@kamikaze I fail to see how it'd be wicked to talk about alicorn love? Love isn't filthy or obscene.
