              1. @critialcloudkicker well I think it's a bit silly that League of Legends has a card now

                            1. @rarity Either yes, or I have been cranky all morning popping pain pills and waiting for my doctors appointment... if the latter, I do apologize. ... Or possibly both

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:29:18 UTC from web
                2. @rarity WoW had a card in like...2008

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:25:57 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                  1. @ceruleanspark that's pretty silly.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:26:34 UTC from web
                    1. @rarity Its reward was game-time. Every dollar you spent pre-paid slices of time on your WoW account.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:27:53 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                      1. @ceruleanspark ...okay that actually sounds pretty legit

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:28:44 UTC from web
                  2. @ceruleanspark Which begs the question whether the WoW and LoL cards came into existance for the same reasons, my money is on "no" ... I recon the WoW players really wanted a WoW credit card, whereas the LoL cards came into existance primarily out of Riot Game's greed and/or lust for money

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:28:19 UTC from web
                    1. @critialcloudkicker I would argue that if Riot was really greedy LoL wouldn't be F2P anymore.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:29:32 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                      1. @ceruleanspark I'd be willing to bet that in LoL's case, the F2P business model actually makes them more money than if they had a traditional "pay a one time fee" model.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:31:25 UTC from web
                        1. @rarity They'd go to subscription based if they wanted to be greedy.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:32:24 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                          1. @ceruleanspark true

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:33:23 UTC from web
                          2. @ceruleanspark They couldn't without losing over half of their established userbase

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:33:27 UTC from web
                            1. @critialcloudkicker If the half that leaves isn't paying them any money anyway, do they care?

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:35:08 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                              1. @ceruleanspark Lets say I have 5 real friends, and 50 people who sometimes read my facebook wall ( or equivallent ). One day I try out LoL and get 4 out of my 5 close friends to play it with me. The people on my facebook wall ( or equivallent ) get to see that I played the game and liked Riot Games for a free reskin of Tristana. So they do the same, and try out LoL. Lets say roughly 10% of them buy a skinpack... This is how it has been working for LoL

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:38:43 UTC from web
                              2. @ceruleanspark Now lets say the game goes from F2P to P2P... the barrier to pick up the game becomes an N amount bigger. At the same time a lot of people who were shouting your name with the words "try this" also disappear. ... Now what they "could" do is an opt in "Unlock everything" P2P package... But they have always opposed this idea

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:41:12 UTC from web
                              3. @ceruleanspark They care because LOL has a marketing strategy that requires their game to be easily approachable. They are not looking forward to change their whole marketing strategy and in turn make an ass out of themselves and a LOT of hate from the current community that plays LoL. If there would not be a whole lot of negative fallout if they would change the game to a P2P service, they would most certainly would.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 16:56:21 UTC from web
                      2. @ceruleanspark Well, F2P is a legit buisness strategy you can not revamp easily witout serious ramifications. I am pretty sure they would if they could now that LoL is all famous and stuff. There was no way that a paid service was going to get the same amount of love from the community with free to play alternatives availible. I am afraid that really undermines your theory right there

    2. @rarity It says a lot about america that a NEW YORK TIMES article had to explain how a bananasing debit card works.

Monday, 12-Aug-13 11:20:31 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @ceruleanspark It shows a real deminishing return in the intelligence of the readers, that is for sure
