THIS is brilliant digital artwork. Silly, simple vectors aren't even mentionable in comparison to this. http://clayinthecarpet.deviantart.com/art/MLP-The-Apple-Family-395699828

@clayinthecarpet You also have to remember that not everyone is amazing at art like that person is and can hardly draw, yet they may be great at vectoring. Calling their work less significant than others is just rude.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:20:20 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg My only point is that vectors are far more simple and more readily available due to the templates out there. Granted, I have seen many good vectors and even Fave'd them on DA when they work in fantastic ways. However, the general MLP:FiM vectors making the rounds out there usually aren't anything to go nuts about.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:23:21 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Never said that all of them were fantastic or should be even praised, but saying something is insignificant just because it's less complex than another medium isn't really fair. Quality should come before how difficult something is when it comes to praise.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:25:24 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I'm not sure how to respond to that. Yes, quality is important...probably the most important aspect of all...But, if somebody had to go through very, very little effort to achieve that quality (IE: vectors based on someone else's mapping work with simple color changes/additions and stuff), and ends up selling more of it because that's just what's popular at the moment, it kinda bothers me. I spent like 20+ hours on that Nyx/Nightmare Moon drawing and even got it posted on EQD, but I have sold ZERO things. Zero. And these people with their simpler vectors are making the bucks. I just don't get it.

@nerthos Sadly, you're right...And I can't give into the demands of the idiot populace because that's not why I'm here. So...*stares at empty wallet and sighs in defeat*

@clayinthecarpet Just saying, I work at a Farmland pork plant and while it's exhausting physical labor, I'm getting $16.25/hr once I'm out of the new hire stage, and I have great benefits and insurance.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:39:25 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Nah, I know...I worked at a bank call center for over 7 years until 2 months ago. That job.....that job piled so much on my shoulders that I very nearly committed suicide. It's all I thought about for months on end. (Pony alleviated that stress.) I'm gonna have to get a new day job, probably at another call center, soon because my art just doesn't make any money at all. Quality will never matter in a world of instant gratification and short-term memory.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:41:57 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet My job isn't stressful besides you hurt for a while if you're unused to physical effort.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:42:36 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Yeah, well, not everyone has the luxury of having such jobs available in their general area. Call centers are all that hire/pay here.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:44:12 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet This is literally the only job I could find in a year. It's not a 'luxury' since it's not what I wanted to do ideally, but I've learned to get over it and do what I needed to do to support my family.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:45:11 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg That's admirable, but I'm just letting you know that that particular job is likely not an option where I live. I know of very few jobs that pay above $12 an hour here that you can get without a college degree.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:47:16 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet This is literally the only job that pays over minimum wage unless you have certifications or higher education.

@flamingpandaomg "Rarity picks the day for her and Fluttershy's weekly spa dates. Every year they fall on Hearts and Hooves Day, and every year Fluttershy doesn't get the hint and suggests to postpone their "date." That's the single-best thing in the world?

@deadmadness665 Yes, if you'd read more than the intro.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:51:37 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I just can't... I don't like thinking of the characters doing such things.. I'm very sensitive to that sort of stuff, especially if it involves Fluttershy who is just the most innocent pony in Equestria. (And the fact that both are female kinda turns me away anyways, be into what you will, but that's not what i'm into...

Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:55:45 UTC from web-

@deadmadness665 heh...Well, I wouldn't say Fluttershy is "innocent" by a long shot...but at any rate, I stand by what I said. Also, @snowcone , I don't think mane 6 ships are "understandable" at all. They feel forced and wishful, taking me out of the story and really just making me shake my head in disbelief and disappointment the whole time. The best writer in the world couldn't convince me of a mane 6 ship. It just doesn't work like that.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:57:43 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet It works however people can get it to work. Just because you don't want to see it doesn't mean that it can't logically be explained.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 06:58:45 UTC from web -
@clayinthecarpet So far I've found only two ships that could be justified. Pre-Gala rarityxblueblood and dashxwonderbolt.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:01:38 UTC from web -
@clayinthecarpet what you mean to say, *what you have read or heard thus far * is not understandable for mane 6 ships. This is my hangup. You gave University Days a try, which iirc is a pretty long story, you stuck with it, and you enjoyed it. I spent a good deal of time forming an in-character development from "green isn't your color" to expand upon the traditions in Rarity and Fluttershy's friendship while applying the age-old theme of friendship blossoming into something more. And as I am a big Disney fan, whom I feel capture G-rated romance almost perfectly every time, I am a huge proponent of tasteful writing and apply that to my work. I just feel it is unfair for my work to be judged against uninformed generalizations based on other fans' prior works, which I avoided reading on purpose to set my writing apart. I'm not demanding you read my work, but I just feel unfairly judged on terms that don't really apply to me or my work.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:08:36 UTC from web-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline I understand your frustration with my mindset. Honestly, I bet your fic is likely well-written and I might even enjoy it if I took the time to read it through. However. Because of the show's canon and the FACT...*FACT*...that none of the mane 6 would EVER EVER EVER be in a relationship with each other, I really can't accept any fanon/shipfic stories of any two members of the mane 6. I just can't. I admit, it's unfair to your work, but it's the way I perceive things and I'm not changing any time soon. I mean no disrespect to you or to your hard work, though, and I apologize if you took it personally.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:12:01 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Please find where in the show that they ever said that they were explicit in their sexual orientation
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:13:47 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Also, where in the show they even mentioned sexual orientation, let alone specific ponies' inclinations.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:15:20 UTC from web -
@flamingpandaomg You're misconstruing my comment. Fact: We will never see any of the mane 6 in canon in a relationship with one another. There will be awkward situations that may be nods to fandom, but we will NEVER see that happen outright because of the nature of the show. It's not possible. Now, ...if some background ponies who never get a backstory or attention in the show are paired together, that's different for me. Hell, really the animators already kinda throw us bones with that subject, in a way. They purposefully leave the background ponies unexplored so that we can "keep our fandom intact" or whatever. That feels better to me than, say, "Flutterdash lol I promise it's kewl"
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:17:23 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet You literally can't say anything's a fact when you're not in direct control of the show and what they decide to include on the show.

@clayinthecarpet the art behind fanfiction is taking something that won't happen, and presenting the narrative as a damn-good argument as to how it could happen. We all know fanfiction won't happen, that's the point of writing any of it to begin with. It allows us to enjoy stories that will never be told otherwise. By your argument, no fanfiction other than status-quo-enforcing slice-of-life stories would be worthwhile stories (or at least meet your standards implied by your logic). I make the claim that you can't accept mane 6 shipping because you haven't been convinced through narrative that it is rewarding from a reader's perspective, or that your opinion of shipping is not based on an informed position. I am aware of the eye-rolling powers that be in fanfiction. I also know there is so much fanfiction out there of varying levels in quality, so much so that generalizing any given genre's tropes would surely be folly if you havent really taken from a reasonable sample size.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:20:00 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I didn't say it's weird. I said it's impossible in canon (even as subtle nods to fans) so I can't possibly entertain it. I just can't. I know that's my personal opinion, but it just is what it is and I'm TRYING to explain that in a way that won't upset Mr. @prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline personally.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:22:16 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet you literally said the phrase "pony weirdness", so yes, you did say it was weird.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:22:42 UTC from web -
@clayinthecarpet but all fanfiction other than just-another-day stories are equally impossible. So how something like University days deserves more attention, or a fairer preference over something like a story with at worst two ponies holding hooves, is beyond me when I apply your arguments to what you've previously said

@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Wow, you're making a lot of assumptions about me. Please refrain from doing so. The point I'm trying to make is: I believe what I believe and I won't give your story a chance because it conflicts with what I believe about the show. That's the simplistic explanation. I mean NO negativity or slight to you, my good sir. I give ship fics a chance sometimes based on their overall content (like...twice EVER so far), but I just can't give yours a chance right now. I apologize for that.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:25:46 UTC from web-

@clayinthecarpet University Days doesn't conflict with the show? Do you see why I'm writing walls of text
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:27:58 UTC from web-
@prettypurpleprincesspublicprincesstimeline Of course not! I don't care about shipfics! I have noooooooo interest in them! They pervert a pureness about the show that I just...I NEED to remain intact. That's why I mentioned the fact that I despise clopping. That's why I can't imagine the mane 6 dating each other. This show is innocent in that way. I don't LIKE to have the innocence of the show ruined. I also don't read stories about "pony war" or destruction or death or ANYTHING like that because pony represents something deeply wonderful to me as it stands as an overall show by Faust and co. Overall, I don't really care if most fanfics burn to the ground in a wonderful bonfire. I simply don't care. HOWEVER, SOMETIMES I'll find one that I can't ignore and works for its own reasons. I've maybe read 5 fanfics I legit *loved to death* so far, but I still harbor a sort of resentment for them because they sometimes pervert the pureness of the canon show.
Sunday, 10-Nov-13 07:31:31 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I already understand that from what you've said. Your view of the show being innocent and pure, and forming standards for fanfction based on an exoectation to uphold said innocence and pureness, is not consistent with your cited example of a fanfiction you like (University Days). While making an exception doesnt interfere with your opinion of ponies being best enjoyed at a g-rated level), it does impair your ability to logically defend your uninformed opinion of fanfictions you havent read. We both understand the show's intention, along with a standard of what a fanfiction should be, then you have prejudice towards anything that seems out of the ordinary. The only thing I really find intellectually offensive is how you say romance "perverts" a show's premise to perpetually grow and nurture relationships. In my opinion, having a story which toils through conflicts that adults face in the real world (debt, *college,* etc) is more antithetical and less pure than romance.

@flamingpandaomg I don't clop, and I don't enjoy fans twisting things in a way that I cannot justify by cartoon canon. It has to fit what I feel is right, which is...a very narrow view, really.
