  10. I'm preparing my CNC router for a minor upgrade. I plan to attach a plastic canvas cover for the rails and the threaded rod such that the crap I cut doesn't land on them. It's not an expensive upgrade or a technical improvement but more an improvement for maintenance and convenience. I was cutting some clear plastic (polystyrene) and that stuff was magically drawn to the lubricated rails and threaded rod. I had to wipe everything off and lubricate again.

  11. By now it's a tradition to change the "Han shoots first" scene with each new release. I was once on the purist side of the fandom who wanted the unaltered scene but now I've grown out of that attitude and just watch the drama from the outside with no emotional investment.

  15. I just had the new She-Ra explained to me by a die-hard fan of the old series

Essentially she thinks it is like taking a beloved franchise that she feels she has supported thoughout the years, by buying merch and all. Someone got their hands on that IP because essentially you can not 'make' a new IP work in the modern oversaturated world. Then added so many new borderline cringe modern 'themes' to it till it pretty much only resembled the beloved She-Ra only in name. I mean For Fox's Sake (I choose to believe she actually said 'For Fox's Sake') they put a first draft D&D character into the show for crying out loud.

Imagine your grandmother learned you how to make granny's apple pie, and then 20 years later she asks you to make her some apple pie just like how she used to like it. Only to have a conversation not even 5 seconds after gramma tasting it about "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU TOOK OUT THE ASBESTOS ?!?"

Strange woman, but made some sense.

I only know 1 person who likes new She-Ra.

  24. Star wars news : Cnet made an article called "Star Wars has never been better, thanks to Disney". But if you read it there is an entire section of the article that do nothing but praise things that either just came out or are still in the pipeline.

Then you read the comments and the most upvoted one just JUMPS at the opportunity to say "Oh [editor], I just love your article. [ ... ] I just love how all the toxic comments prove your point"

Meanwhile all I can think of is. The failure of Solo. The total halt of Star Wars Story movies. Creative freedom was being called to a complete halt by LucasArts. Toy Sales are down the drain. Galaxy's edge is effectively 'empty'. Ryan Johnson did not get his trilogy. D&D told no to Star Wars in favour of Netflix. Rise of Skywalker is STILL being worked on. And I am not even going to touch the whole 'Star Wars Adventures' thing while making Leia a 'woke woman'

But wait, I think it is a Disney Shill Plant, after all, it is Cnet. And who owns Cnet ?

    • @adiwan Solo was mediocre at best, but lets agree to disagree. You are right regarding being too close to TLJ though. But then again we are pretty much talking about the mother of all cataclysmic events that drove the fandom in twain.

If the people were not so split on TLJ like they were, then things like 'fandom fattigue' never got invented and we probably would not have much negative stuff to say about Solo.

Well, other than the directors of Solo being fired at 90% completion of the movie over 'creative differences' and the thing going out of budget by several dozen millions. The 'news' that comes out later to patch up that hole seems awfully convenient to say the least where actors speak out against the fired directors.

But hey, those are in the same category of people that said that Alden Ehrenreich needed on site coaching how to be more like Han Solo. I call out Nepotism. I reckon you would not have had this problem if you hired Ross Marquand ( I am kidding, a bit )

    • @adiwan Ehmm, no ? I have a list of terribly bad good movies ( Machette, Iron Sky, Kung Fury, Hobo With a Shotgun, Sharknado, Surf Nazi's Must Die, Hercules in New York, Poultrygeist : Night of the Chicken Dead, Batman ( Clooney ) & Robin, Face/Off ) that are filled with "haha, oh my, I can not believe they did that, haha"

I can only guess that is what you mean with 'not very excelling but like them nontheless"

I also have a list of Terrible Terrible movies ( Troll 2, Birdemic, Laserblast, Cool Cat saves the kids, the frEd movies, The Last Airbender ( M Knight ) foodfight ) that make me point at the screen and make horror faces like that one scene from Body Snatchers, you know the one.

I mean, unless if I tone down 'like' to 'could watch it again instead of playing video games'. Then you get movies like Beverly Hills Cop, Police Academy, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Naked Gun, Die Hard ( Best Xmas movie ), Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, Liar Liar, and Wreck it Ralph

  25. Aaaaand my CNC is dead. It coughed up magic smoke. A resistor blew up while trying to troubleshoot the problem of the non-moving and squealing Z Axis. It turned out to be a coil that squealed. The motor was conveniently behind the mainboard so I misinterpreted that as a faulty motor. I bought stepper motors for nothing. I can reuse them for something else. Like making a 3D printer from scratch but it won't be anytime soon.
I contacted Amazon support and they offer a refund. So I bought a new one. The marketplace seller was uncooperative and didn't answered after a week of silence.
I just ordered a replacement that is slightly cheaper from another seller.

  26. Just got mail from the customs office for an item I can't remember. I tried to cross reference with my emails with the given shipper information but I cannot find what it is exactly. In the content description are only vague notes like "PCB" or "Development Board" but so far I got everything I ordered.

    • @adiwan We all have a friend that recieved something double, for some reason all of the times I heard my friends 'brag' about it it was about rather powerful video cards.

Probably going back at least 10 years or so.

Maybe it is your lucky day. Ehmm, actually, I do not even halfway think that a PCB could cost that much unless if the name of the device is rather unknown, obscure, or less than legal.

    • @drinkingpony Haha. No death ray. The most perplexing fact is that it was sent on October 30th. A few days ago, from China via express shipment. I looked at my bank account and nothing was out of the expected. The last thing I ordered from China were 3D printer board (that I've received) and a plushie for a relative's birthday (that I've also received). The customs office letter says that I have to bring a bill, purchase contract, or something that verifies its value and transaction. If I do nothing until the end of next week it'll be sent back. My curiosity is big enough to go to the customs office and see what it is.

Up to that time it was as "hyperactive" as the internet and that turned me off. There was always something happening without any second to take a breath.
