I'm through all Ranma ½ OVAs, including the one from 2008. The 2008 one is very strange animation-wise. Due to the more "modern" art style and smoother animation it looks plainly wrong. Also the animation timing and framing is stylistically worse in my opinion. The only content I'm missing are the two films and I've just ordered them. Soon I'll be free from the compulsive urge to consume everything from that darn series.

Binged through 161 episodes of Ranma ½. Only the 12 OVA are left. My head is all mushy. So far I can only say that there are a lot of episodes that are faithful to the manga, however there are also plenty stories with hacked-up plots spread over multiple episodes sprinkled over multiple seasons. Of course there are also not an insignificant number of original stories. These leaned more to the bad side, but a few were quite good. Over all I prefer the manga. The manga was tighter in the presentation and the jokes hit better because of that.

OK... I'm hit by reality. In order to fully utilize the AMD Ryzen 9 3950x I need to buy a motherboard that is well in the range of 400€+ because the motherboard power regulation often heat up so much that the CPU throttles. I take down a notch in my plans and get less ambitious in the CPU department. I rather want to upgrade more often than blasting all my earnings for the best. A 3900x will be sufficient enough! HAHAHA.

@adiwan That is how I used to play Anno 1404 multiplayer, Untill I realised that due to Ubisoft's shoddy coding it would just grab the first network-interface ( of type X, where X is either wired or wireless ) to try to connect to other players.
Which is a HUGE problem if you have, for instance, VirtualBox installed since it creates a virtual adapter.Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

I'm configuring my new computer back and forth on several shop websites and I'm always getting easily up to 2000€. Essentially I cannot recycle most of my components. HDDs, DVD drive only. My last configuration was an AMD 3700x, 64GB DDR4-3200, 1TB m.2 SSD, NVidia 2800 super, mainboard, 800W power supply, case. I need a new case because my current has only usb2 ports at the front and I'd like to have something better. Other than that it has some serious scratches from over 14 years of use as well as an unsightly opening on the side panel when these CPU "tubes" were in fashion for directly venting the hot CPU air out. This was never used because my cooler was not shaped in the way to benefit from that.

@adiwan Sounds about right, I just build a 3600 Ryzen 5 powered PC for my dad, Though it has only 16 GB of RAM and a GT 710 instead of 64 GB and a RTX 2080 Super.
No DVD drive though, who needs that in 2020 ? And if you do. Go USB the thing.
> I need a new case
Fractal design define R5 or S. Probably not the S if you want to mount multiple HDD's and a DVD drive up front.
Also I kinda remember Gamers Nexus saying "It is the card noone actually cares about" ( I had it running in the background while doing something else ) http://rainbowdash.net/url/875373 ... So beware on that RTX 2080 Super I guess.Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@drinkingpony I'm a programmer. It's the second best without completely pulling out a leg and an arm to afford a 2080ti. DVD is essential for me and my retro game collection. A portable USB DVD drive could be nice but I have alreay an internal drive. It's also a good cup holder.

I hate it when there is a lack of subtitles for almost half a minute on a paid DVD, especially when I don't understand the spoken language (Japanese). Good thing I read the book and I can decipher some information from the context. The DVDs were "cheap" at least. If I bought a newer version on Blu Ray I'd cost me 7 times as much.

On the other hand... Pretty sure the RMA combined with the original postage plus the costs of the controller at 90% off is less than the DNA kit.
Wait, I got lost in the sauce as they say... Why do they want that Cola bottle ?Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

My steam controllers came in. One of the 2 boxes was all banged up and had repair-tape of the sender all over it. DoA, that story is going to be long, rough, and unpleasant.
Spend a bit of time on my working steam controller, and it is actually a nice thing. I poked a bit around on my Steam to area's where I do not go pretty often, being greeted with all sorts of soundbytes from GTA VC when I put on the music player on.
Say Goodnight Mr Diaz !
But I can see this being a real nice doohickey. Probably going to spend at least some time familiarizing myself with the device, and then if my 2nd one ever gets whole again probably load it up with all sorts of weird stuff. I already know where to begin actually.

I see so many repair and product review videos on youtube and I wonder if someone attempted to reconstruct fingerprints from these videos. I mean that the videos are so close to the fingers that you can see almost every detail in 1080p/2160p so it could be feasible to do that.
Saturday, 30-Nov-19 11:48:00 UTC from web- Jonathan Chouinard likes this.
-
@adiwan Yes, it can be done though 4K footage, however you need to go through it frame by frame and you need someone to make best guesses as this someone scetches the fingerprint.
The real problem begins once we get 8K, people at Defcon estimate that is when you can get bots to scrouge entire video's en-masse looking for fingerprints, Kinda like how face-recognision software works in current era.Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

Never ever I'll buy a SanDisk USB stick again. They get so uncomfortably hot that I'm not trusting its reliability over a longer time. I bought a cheaper stick and it barely heats up sitting idle in the USB port. The SanDisk one could be used to boil water, metaphorically speaking. I have two SanDisk sticks and this sample size gives me confidence to make this judgement not to buy anything from SanDisk ever again.

Methaphorical challenge accepted. Now I just need to find a non-ultra-slim that gets rediculously hot to boil something with.Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@drinkingpony RIP USB port
Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@adiwan I am not going to use a weak 5V line to boil stuff. I mean I think with 100% conversion I'd be able to put 2.5 W into my water. Meaning 1 DTU would take approximately 25 seconds per teaspoon of water. So if I go from room temperature to boiling I would need to spend approx 40 minutes on half a cup of water.
And that is just due to the limitations of the USB line.Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

Usually I put a book series in the shelf from right to left in ascending order. However these double-volume books have the annoying thing that the two volume numbers are side by side. So Right now the shelf looks like this: 7 + 8, 5 + 6, 3 + 4, 2 + 1. I think I'm the only one (member of the left-to-right-reading society) putting books in "reverse" order.

I cannot be helped. I bought a giant Ranma ½ DVD box set. I tried to find a source for the episodes for *free* but I couldn't, only few episodes. The English dub is horrendous, even the German dub is a ton better, however only half the series was dubbed in German. I guess I'll hook up my soft-modded XBox to watch them in Japanese with English subtitles.

@adiwan There really is not a whole lot that sounds better when it is dubbed tho. Anime is no exception.
Though I must say I have heard some good things about Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, InuYasha, Black Butler and SteinsGate.
Then again I also heard about Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Neon Genesis Evangelion that nullify any good will I would ever have for dubs.
Let me quickly check up on some anime I was into way back when ( before I realized it was pretty much the UC story being soft-rebooted in a different universe ) and so I watched http://rainbowdash.net/url/875336 for about a minute.
Ohkay so I know this isn't the best scene in the whole anime, and I honestly have a hard time remembering the good bits let alone where they were and in what episode or I would probably go see the bit where Flay goes insane and tries to become boyfriends with Kira. But damn, this sounds SO bad.
Oh it got so much worse with the techno babble and the "that is all there is ?!?" at 9MJonathan Chouinard likes this.

Like 3 weeks ago the locking mechanism for my left joycon became so 'loose' that I am hesitant to use the switch just holding it with my left hand. So I ordered those metal replacement locking mechanisms after one of my friends made me aware of them
Turns out My Mate VINCE needed them too about 2 years ago http://rainbowdash.net/url/875328 ( Near perfect amount of looseness between Vince's joycon and mine too )
So I ordered some though Amazon ( only place I could find them really )
So talking about the Switch as I did, I just checked on the delivery details of my order. Turns out I could see in real-time how they went from "being delivered in 1 mintue" to "Oh hey it is late, it was expected Thursday"
As for the original plastic locking mechanism, I am not even sure if that is thanks to my roughness, thanks to where I work, or thanks to Nintendo. I think I heard some good things about the design being plastic from fanboys, but then explain the Switch Lite to me ?Thursday, 21-Nov-19 19:13:54 UTC from web- Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

@drinkingpony The first Japanese release had it implemented in hardware. Very quickly it went away by emulating that in software and then altogether. Also the flash card readers were gone faster than anyone noticed that it even existed. When I bought my used PS3 I tried to open the flap to the reader until I realized that the amount of force I put onto the plastic was unreasonable and figured out that it was removed after the first revisions.

@scribus The Sega consoles are a minefield with that. IIRC the Genesis was called the Mega Drive outside of North America because it was being carried by a different company abroad. I believe it is called the Tec Toy in Brazil. In Korea by Samsung and it was called the Super Gameaboyo or something like that.
Then later with things like the Mega CD addon ( Sega CD in NA ) it got really confusing as some units were assembled in different area's than their intended audience that shipped together with controllers. Now for SOME reason the regional controlers were all different on the inside ( and I still have no idea why ) but I do know there is a real possibility that one of your controler has Samsung somewhere written on the circuit board, and the other reading Virgin Mastertronic or something. There is no doubt a bigger nerd than I am out there who knows that all by head.Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@adiwan Huh, weird. My PS3 does NOT look like what the model number says it should look like, As such I have no idea if it has full hardware, partial software, full software, or none when it comes to PS2 game support. I'll look into that later. Somewhere and when after I fixed my PC speakers and cleaned my room.
