Going to try and get whatever I can for my htc Desire Z when it gets back from being fixed and put it towards a Samsung Galaxy SII. Used my cousin's extensivley and I love it. !techponies !androidbronies

The Wildfire S seems to take longer to charge than my Desire Z, for some reason. No idea why however. :S !androidbronies !techponies
-
An application I'm trying to install won't install due to "Insufficient storage space" there's a Micro SD card with 20GB free plugged into it :/ (using my mum's htc Wildfire S) !techponies !androidbronies
-
@ceruleanspark Hmmm...true :/ Still, I know for a fact that some (but not all) applications can be moved to a Micro SD card after being installed. Did it on my Desire Z to make space for apps that could only use the internal memory.
-
@leonkfox The apps need to be flagged for that by the dev.
-
@ceruleanspark Makes sense. Well, I'll have to move a few over to free space for this application I'm trying to install.

That moment when you realize your previous OS had encrypted your home folder and you didn't back it up before reinstalling. ;_; !techponies

!techponies God damn it, Google, what the hell are you doing? Why are all of your redesigns so terrible?

Anypony out there with a BlackBerry know of a decent StatusNet client for the OS? (That works on a Curve 8520 specifically) gonna be without my htc Desire Z for a week or so, and I would rather not have to use its clunky murdock web browser just to post to RDN when I'm out and about. !techponies

Just called htc about the fault I've been having when taking my phone (Desire Z) out of standby mode, it'll be collected between 1-5pm tomorrow :) !androidbronies !techponies

Managed to get my Desire Z's screen to turn on...at last. I daren't turn it off again though. When I get home tomorrow I'm calling htc to get it repaired like I said. Still, I don't miss having to use that BlackBerry, especially when posting to RDN on that clunky apples web browser. !techponies

Here's me thinking I'd escaped this phone for good, I'm back to using the BlackBerry Curve 8520 as my primary smart phone (using it to type this post as I don't know of any StatusNet clients for BlackBerries) as much as I hate this phone for how slow its internet speeds are (2G/Edge) the small as all hell keyboard among other things, my htc Desire Z no longer seems to want to work, pressing the standby button and the screen no longer seems to want to turn on 9/10 times) got to send it back to htc when I can to get it fixed...again. Then I think I'm going to sell it and get a better phone. Third time lucky, I hope... !techponies

Tweeting from my cousin's Samsung Galaxy SII...I am so jealous of this phone that i's unreal x.x I wish I hadn't been so fixated with having a physical keyboard on my phone when I changed from my BlackBerry Curve 8520. This phone is hella easy to type on with just a touch screen, has a far superior design than my htc Desire Z and it runs a LOT smoother. So yeah, jealousy levels rising... !androidbronies !techponies

Think I'll have to send my phone back to htc :/ This will be the second time I've done this, and fallen back on my old BlackBerry Curve 8520. !androidbronies !techponies

9/10 times when I try to get my htc Desire Z out of standby I only get the buttons to light up on my phone. Problem after problem with this phone.. (And factory resetting didn't help at all, already tried it) !androidbronies !techponies

Oh dear lord, when my phone shakes one irritating habit (touch screen locking up) the damn thing finds itself another one to use to get on my nerves, something awful I might add. Basically, I hit the power button to turn it on/get it out of standby, and the capactive buttons underneath the screen light up...but sweet candy coated bugger all appears on screen, and it can go on for several minutes at a time. Are these constant issues all Android related, or is it just me being unlucky with this htc Desire Z? -_- !techponies !androidbronies

!techponies Thinking of picking up a small (60-80GB) SSD to run a couple games off of. That, combined with the reasonable amount of storage space on my two remaining slooooooooow HDDs should tide me over until I can afford something with a little more breathing room. || Never had an SSD before, and it looks like my usual hard drive tactic of "get a WD/Seagate" isn't going to work very well. Anypony have any recommendations, or advice on what to look for? || Do keep in mind that I'm a starving college student, so budget is a big issue; also, I'm Canadian, so I'd prefer something from NCIX or DirectCanada; newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca are also acceptable.

@ponydude2143 what doesn't ?

@ponydude2143 And nopony got mad! Astra does stuff like that from time to time, and she's more or less universally liked.

@ponydude2143 Report them to me next time. I'll start handing out rulings.

My RAM is going to be the very last component to arrive for my new computron... It had to be something absolutely vital, didn't it? #firstworldproblems !techponies

My new 32gb Micro SD card arrived yesterday (old one fell out of my phone after said phone fell off my desk, and due to their incredibly small size finding it has been nothing short of impossible) and I've been working on rebuilding my music, video etc libraries, starting with all the FiM episodes. I'm downloading them via TubeMate (Unofficial YouTube Downloader app for Android, need to download it from the browser) and it's taking quite some time. I would just torrent them all, but I torrented them all in good quality and they lagged on my phone big time, downloading them through TubeMate to ensure that doesn't happen, even if it does take longer. !techponies !androidbronies

So... Yeah. New monitor. It'd be on a new computer, except I haven't received my RAM or wireless card yet. Attached to my netbook? Well. . . Yeah. That's my netbook down there on the bottom. !techponies http://2tu.us/3n8s

@eaglehooves heh My new desktop will be using my dead laptop's HDD (along with a new SSD for the OS).
-
@scribus My roommate has Ubuntu on a SSD. Worked like a dream till Dropbox burned out a sector.
-
@eaglehooves Yikes. >.< Actually, now that I think about it, my netbook is an 8 GB SSD, it's been groovy all along. Not a lot of Dropbox experience, though. . .

Just ordered the bits to make my new computer. Maybe sometime this week I'll clear off space for it on my desk. !techponies

So I walked out and abandoned a shopping cart full of computer parts at Fry's just now. They wouldn't sell me what I wanted. I tell them, "I want this," and they say, "We have a lovely that, which is not what you want and is more expensive." Or, I point to a card and say, "I'll take that," and lo and behold they don't have that item they're advertising in-store. TLDR - #firstworldproblems I'm buying my computer online after all. !techponies
-
@astra Now I see why so many members of my Linux group sneer when they mention Fry's.
-
@scribus Weak. Sauce.

@gangstashy Oh, I am having a decidedly non-pony rant over it with a friend.

Oh, I love it when a web search turns up outdated tech articles... Search: "Motherboard buyer's guide." Results include things like: "If you want to take advantage of the newest dual-core processors..." or "Newer motherboards will probably use DDR3 RAM." So very informative. #sacrasm !techponies #firstworldproblems

Did a total factory reset of my phone...why may you ask? Because most of my applications (I'd guess more than 3/4 of them) were installed onto my 32gb Micro SD Card...which got lost in my room when my phone fell off of my desk earlier. Finding it is going to be impossible, what with how miniscule those things are, and how much stuff there is in my room. All of my FiM episodes, music, pictures...it's all replaceable, but rebuilding it is going to be a nightmare, plus I have to burn a whole in my wallet and order a new one...(The fact that I still experience frequent Launcher Crashes even after said reset really irritates me as well! #FirstWorldPains !techponies !androidbronies

This video makes a really good point, if you want an iPad 2 for Christmas, it may be a good idea to wait a few months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlPLbXbxLnY&list=FLIVA_kxxyutNsSObA86tLtg&index=2&feature=plpp_video !techponies

@yodelerty See, it's not a matter of Windows Vista being out dated, it's a matter of it sucking from the very moment it was released and always staying that way.
-
@leonkfox And the reason they released Windows 7 so soon after. My mom doesn't seem to notice the crap that is Vista, and she doesn't even have a smart phone, so I doubt she'll care about having an outdated iPad a few months down the road.
-
@yodelerty I used to have a laptop with Vista on it, I really didn't mind it at first, but after a few months it started to get on my nerves something awful. (Similar to how my experience with Android has turned, though it took considerably longer for me to grow tired of it than it did with Vista)

Any recommendations for good places to get computer hardware? Think I'm gonna roll my own desktop soon-ish. !techponies

@thatonepony Yeah, I was just at Fry's. Also looked at Newegg. Both pretty comparable to each other, AFAIK.
-
@thatonepony And even though I drive a minivan, gas is still cheaper than postage.

It's a good year or so off, but when this contract ends I don't see myself getting another Android phone, I may just go with Windows Phone 7. !techponies !androidbronies
