@northernnarwhal I would do dumbbell squats but the logistics of getting two 50lb dumbells up to shoulder height and keeping them there safely would be too much. Not to mention it'd be adding an extra layer of difficulty in that it would make it an arm exercise as well

@northernnarwhal it's kind of a shame though since there's only Smith Machines at my gym, so I have to modify form a little bit. I just try to avoid arching and knee pain, but that means I have to bring my feet almost comically far forward. So much for a straight line from the bar to the balls of your feet

@northernnarwhal it's a shame too because I've tried to be very diligent with proper form to avoid injuries (especially w/ squats) but I didn't even realize I was using that muscle. I'll definitely be aware of it now though.

@northernnarwhal I sprained a deep neck muscle doing standing military press, I didn't even realize it but I was using my neck to compensate for my weak arms/shoulders and the weight was too high. I reached the top of a lift and felt a shooting pain in my neck and was really confused at first
