@pony to present the obvious humourously, EQD has a gigantic hard-on for championing the face of the fandom, and deciding what will be popular and well-known etc within said fandom. It's the only logical explanation for being nazis on fic submission quality, but allowing the site to be rather nsfw and letting subpar comics and music get the front page. Doing a big story about how bronies are just as petty as the rest of them would be a good story to show they're actually journalists, but could stain their self-perceived reputation.
