@beatstrings I wasn't even thinking the emotional aspect of this at first, just that the statement itself that people are an end of themselves and only that. The highest purpose of a person's life is their own interests? I can't find myself ever believing that. Maybe, because of my own emotional governance, I want to believe that people have more than that to do in their lives. I do not doubt that benefits and donations and charities will exist or not exist under this type of system; there are many private orginisations in our current society that do these things. The idea that man is a means to himself however, seems to want to counteract some people's willingness to give and not receive in return.
