@clayinthecarpet We're on the same page. Lately I've only played games because my wife wants to or because something about a particular one catches my eye. Usually, in the latter case, that type of game serves to inspire me, and I do try to expose myself to things that will inspire me for my own creations. If you play pokemon, for instance, you might take the story of camaraderie and companionship between trainer and pokemon as something worth putting into your own creations, or maybe you'll just enjoy the eye-catching designs, show voice acting, addictive game-play, etc. Recently it's been the addictiveness/time requirement that often turns me off to playing RPGs because you're right about it being a distraction from something more meaningful (at least to you and also to me).
