    @metaltao But yes, LOTS of conifers up here, I have a massive evergreen in my front yard. Though we get deciduous trees up here too. Also, on the topic of the carboniferous era, you might be interested in one of my favourite arthropods from it, the massive athropleura (ancestor of the modern millipede) http://www.prehistoric-wildlife.com/images/species/a/arthropleura-size.jpg Surprisingly though, they were actually vegetarians.
