@awl Gurren Lagann is an incredibly fun show because of its boundless sense of energy, and because it manages to constantly build upon itself in every way leading up until its finale. In my experience it's one of those "love it or hate it" shows where you'll either find it awfully endearing or awful, depending on your priorities going into it (I personally sit on the former half of that discussion). I found that while its drama isn't necessarily very well grounded it's not too much of an issue considering how larger than life the show is trying to be in the grander scheme of things. For me the show's greatest strengths aren't necessarily in its writing but in its characters, setpieces, and stylistic choices, all of which are pretty fantastic.
