@rarity I mean, your headcanon is price enough, but I think it's also kind of selfish in the long run. Which isn't to say that love isn't selfish, as it can be, but one of the crucial facets of the game's ending to me is that society for once has a mediator between the two races who understands and emotionally resonates with the peoples of both. I think it would be weird if the Genocide route saved Asriel too, as the game has already jumped through hoops to actively punish the player for their negligence of life and suffering. Though it would make sense following the perspective of a selfish sacrifice by Frisk.
