  1. I’m a bit late to the party here, but seeing as how we saw the material live, I’m actually probably a bit early. John Mulaney’s “Baby J” is probably more accurately described as a radio drama than a standup special. Bar the intro, which is a mostly unrelated set of jokes about his childhood, the entire film is one very long story about Mulaney’s drug addiction, but more specifically his intervention, stay in rehab, and road to recovery, as well as musings and side tangents about possible causes behind his addiction, his drug fueled escapades including a reading of an interview he gave which he claims to have no recollection of, and stories about his doctor “Dr. Michael”, who sexually harassed him and sold him a lot of his drugs in the first place, all circling back around again to his childhood. This does not sound like a very funny show, but it manages to be as outrageously funny as it is introspective, and very much worth a watch/listen.
