  3. @omni Under GNOME3, that is. The window border will obviously look different on other desktop environments.

  4. @omni Good to know, I'll have to look at Epiphany when I get on Mint on my desktop later. The closest thing I have at my fingertips right now is the functionality within Chrome (in desktop mode). I just find it interesting that there aren't many browsers that do it. Not even IE10 in Immersive mode, which I find surprising considering what they're going for with Metro's full screen apps.

  5. @omni @neurario The apps in question will look a bit like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/40/Wikipedia_Web_Application_%28Epiphany%29.png

  6. @omni Mmm. I know there are certainly browsers that can create shortcuts to sites, usually in their own window. I guess I have to admit I'm somewhat sad the rest of us don't have something like http://fluidapp.com/ - I'm sure Metro users would appreciate something that didn't show much UI even. Something that just felt separate from the browser. Is that a strange thing to wish for?

  7. @omni Okay. I just figured that should be clarified so we didn't get confused later on. :P But yeah, it is a bit strange that on that main screen you can't personalise it further than colours and pattern with the first party tools provided

  8. @omni Hang on, do you mean backgrounds in the actual desktop mode? Yeah, you can still have that as whatever you want, same with the lock screen I believe. The start screen is a separate part of UI that has the limited background options.

  9. @omni Sadly, no. You can customise the pattern and the colour, but otherwise you'll be looking at third-party tools to do custom backgrounds. http://www.stardock.com/products/decor8

  10. @omni windows 8 would be awesome with a Microsoft surface. Tablet with a tablet layout, as well as a laptop, with a proper desktop. Or a desktop and a Windows Mobile device. Same settings and everything across the one account

  14. @omni I never said they were saints and you should give them a whole bunch of info. But if I had to pick between selling my soul to microsoft or selling it to google, id choose google.

  15. @omni Google does throw on a friendlier face than most other companies. A portion of its profits even go towards cancer research.

Friday, 21-Dec-12 18:37:34 UTC from web in context
  16. @omni There are plenty of other companies that know just as much if not more about you, and they'd have a much greater motive to do something with that info. I'm not saying it's a good thing for them to do, per se, but worrying about the browsing history Google saves when half of the services in the real world you can sign up for need your home address, phone number, etc. seems a bit silly.

  17. @omni Almost every argument against Google, in favor of open source, etc that I've ever been exposed to has been some variant of "what if $companyName collects all of your personal information and uses it to track you to your house". It just seems ridiculous.

  22. @omni ...Why would you uninstall Google Play or Email?

Friday, 21-Dec-12 15:41:05 UTC from web in context
  23. @omni Really? I was able to uninstall some of the pre-installed apps on my phone without a root. (But then, I didn't remove much. I actually get a fair bit of use out of the Google apps.)

  24. @omni yeah if only there was some way to reward bands you like for producing music.

  25. Today in Dutch law: Downloading will remain legal and "compensated" by a few added Euro on each storage device bought in the Netherlands. Uploading remains illegal. @omni is happy about downloading staying legal, but thinks the compensation is complete junk as he doesn't want his money to go to the crappy pop bands who don't need it whatsoever instead of the small bands that need and deserve it.
