@scribus !equestriandawn Yup. I quit, for one. :P

!bcbronies REALLY looking for someone else to host that MLP panel. I have officially pulled out from this now, and they need someone else to run it. If you are going to VancouFur and can help out, please contact @VancouFur on Twitter and offer. Otherwise, it will sit on the schedule and have no host at all.
-
!bcbronies Anyone want to run the MLP Meetup (Sunday 10am) at VancouFur? They've asked me to (since I did it last year), but personally would rather someone else in the group did it :)
-
@jackzhang !bcbronies That's the other thing. I have never seen a convention financed that way. Money comes from organizers taking a risk and putting their own in (often protected by a legal organization such as a LLC - at least in the US), registration fees, dealer table fees, and potentially anything the convention can produce to sell. The idea is that what you make in fees and sales should be enough to a) pay for this year's costs, b) support you for the next year and c) give you base to start on for the next year. With the way this BronyCan looks like it's going, being so secretive about where and when it is, considering it's meant to be 'in BC in 2013', I am skeptical that they will get enough memberships to keep themselves afloat for next year. Canada has a much lower population than the US, and to come into Canada from, say, mid-west to east coast, people need to organize travel plans fairly early on to get decent fares.
-
@bronymike !bcbronies That's one of the things that doesn't sit well with me about it. From their website, looks like most of their core staff are elsewhere in Canada. Now while that can work for an established convention where the event space is used to dealing with you, for a first year con it's impossible. There's too much back and forth and in-person meetings required with your venue. A large portion of a convention's staff come from the local area, so alienating the local community of your fandom is only going to hurt the convention when you have positions that have to be filled.
-
!vancouverbronies So I'm curious... Does anyone locally have any active involvement with this BronyCan that is meant to be "in BC" this year? As someone who has run 2500+ person conventions in the past, something just seems 'off' about this. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I would love to find out more.
-
@retl Oh hi! Not too bad :)
-
@herpyderpyhooves !bcbronies A quick note to this. Don't have high expectations of finding much in the stores you pass on the way down. I drive down to Seattle from the Vancouver area frequently and often stop by those stores on the way. EVERY time that I've been passed, the shelves have looked ransacked. The only thing that I found that was decent on my recent drive down (this past w/e) was a Cloudsdale set (RD, Gilda, Wonderbolt) at the Target in Smokey Point - and I hit pretty much every place on the way. Target & WalMart (Bellingham), WalMart (Mount Vernon), Target (Smokey Point) and WalMart (Marysville). So not to put a downer on this but don't get your hopes up for finding cool swag.
-
@bronymike Ooh, I never spotted the RSS feed before! Yes, that's more useful to me :)
-
@jackzhang Yup... Just enabled the setting for that (and fixed the Cos & Effect event that you no doubt wanted to span multiple days ;)
-
@jackzhang Yeah, that's definitely how they do it. On the first post of each topic, there's a 'last edited by <moderator name>' in there.
-
@jackzhang I think that all that is done there is that a mod edits the subject to say that.
-
@jackzhang And considering I see you just made a post, it does indeed look fixed :)
-
@jackzhang Should be fixed now.
-
@jackzhang I did not know that! Thanks.
-
@bronymike @jackzhang @tequilasunrise While RDN is cool and all, if you don't check it for a few days it's incredibly easy to miss stuff like meetup dates and plans. I've missed stuff like that myself. At least the forum will allow us to hold polls and place events on a calendar for pretty easy tracking.
-
@jackzhang Yep! Definitely needs some custom logo... but I'm no artist to do that! I'm sure _somepony_ in this community must be an artist! ;)
-
@tequilasunrise Have a look around there, see if there's anything that I missed, etc. Hopefully @bronymike and @jackzhang will notice too. Then once all is good we can announce to the group.
-
@tequilasunrise Spotted you register - you're now a global mod on the board.
-
@jackzhang @bronymike @tequilasunrise Alrighty... I've grabbed the domain 'bcbronies.org' and set up a forum. I snagged the structure from the bcfurries one because it actually makes a good deal of sense (and I could easily see how it was done, since it's on my machine too). Forum is at <http://www.bcbronies.org/forum/> I can set the three of you up as moderators to start with.
-
@jackzhang !Vancouverbronies or make it a forum for all !bcbronies?
-
@garyoak @therealscoutaloo !bcbronies The EqD post is, indeed, true. The con website will reflect this as soon as the webmaster is able to update

@scribus I know that it's not us causing the issue. But something on that server will occasionally spike and cause so much load that it lags everything for a few minutes. If you're not the server admin, is there any chance you can bring this to the attention of who is, please?
