  1. @notclacke @dwmatiz There's an # bug in # (introduced in the last 2-3 years) that make # "unauthorized" to post. Since # only connects by username password, it isn't affected. That's the primary reason I use AS. I should conect Mustard by username / password and use it as my main client again. Faster, more responsive, shows posts that AS never does.

  4. # v.41.01 "Search by a part of a word. Avatars fixed" is released, see https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
    What's new:
    1. Search works for a note's name (title) and a content. You have to launch "AndStatus Settings -> Storage -> Check and fix data" once to rebuild search index in existing local cache.
    2. Added Search and filtering by a part of a word. Now you can type e.g. contains:other to match "other" and "mother" or you can search for contains://andstatus.org/ to filter posts, which contain links in "andstatus.org" domain.
    3. Added (the 6th) option to show a User in timeline as "Real name @webFingerId"
    4. Fixed avatars not showing problem (downloading / reloading and purging). https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4449989

  5. @eudaimon Regarding # support in # As reported a couple of days ago "the client works almost flawlessly after updating to 3.6 (twitter_api had been previously enabled)" Meaning, after Hubzilla server upgrade.

  6. @eudaimon I really found a bug with getting actors' avatars for actor, which are present in different fediverse instances. # could mistakenly ask the wrong host for the actor's information :-( The bug is present since AndStatus started to merge logically actors (and their lists of activities) of different Social networks by their Webfinger Id. The fix will be in v.41

    Sunday, 08-Jul-18 06:08:50 UTC from loadaverage.org
  7. @eudaimon Not showing some avatar is not a bug, but may be a result of unsuccessful avatar download. "Get Actor information" in the user's/actor's context menu forces # to re-download the actor's avatar also. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4399107

  8. @kris You are right, until recently didn't pay enough attention to give a user an easy way to see lists of friends and followers, profiles of users. Only about a month ago (in v.39) users' profiles were added to the top of their "Sent" timelines ("Notes by someusername" in the context menu). The profile view has its context menu, allowing to see that user's friends and followers, and to follow the user.

  10. @gdorn Please note that you can use one Search timeline to query notes/posts from a server (make that timeline periodically syncable but hidden from the Timeline selection; and use that server's specific query syntax there, e.g. adding lang:en to a Twitter's query string to filter by language),
but use another timeline with simpler syntax (supported by ) to _view_ results of that search!

  12. @gdorn Currently can show timelines filtered by full words or by quoted phrases, containing full words only. This is why, for example, domain name loadaverage.org can be found only in a case it is typed as a separate word, like in this post, and not as a part of the URL with a path inside this domain...

  14. # v.40.02 released with a fix for the crash https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4364393

Monday, 18-Jun-18 19:04:39 UTC from loadaverage.org in context
  15. I found out that # v. 40.01 has a bug, crashing its Timeline in a case a User selected "Device default" Color Theme in AndStatus Settings -> Appearance.
As a workaround before a fix please select the other Color Theme: Dark or Light.
In order to get into AndStatus settings without opening a Timeline please do the following:
    1. Go to Android Settings -> Accounts
    2. Select any AndStatus account
    3. On the window of the account click "AndStatus account settings" words.
    4. "Select an account" list with accounts inside AndStatus will open.
    5. Don't Select any account, but press Back button on your device instead.
    6. Now you're in AndStatus Settings.
    7. Go to Appearance -> Color Theme and select Dark or Light.

  16. @delores # is designed to sync in a background and to allow a User to browse timelines that were downloaded earlier. When you press Sync button, it downloads and stores timelines, users and attachments into a local database first, and only after that it loads the updated timeline from the database.
As I see, performance is quite acceptable with about 300,000 notes stored locally.

  17. @hckr I already did this yesterday. Now Back button closes soft keyboard first, and next Back button press closes the Editor and saves the Draft.
Will be included in the next # v.40 update

    Friday, 15-Jun-18 07:14:38 UTC from loadaverage.org
  18. @hckr To cancel Note Editor in #, please find "Discard" in the Action bar (top menu).
If the Action bar is hidden, just goto the Home screen and return back to the application,
    or simply rotate the screen.
Maybe I need to Save Draft and close the Editor in a case Back button is pressed on a device?!

  19. @why Regarding saving images: this can be done using image viewer that has this feature.
Another option: switch in Settings # Storage to External storage - and all downloaded images become browsable by any viewer: they are stored as separate files in the "downloads" subfolder.

  22. # v.40.00 "Favoriting activity in GNU Social and Limiting image cache size" is released, see https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
    What's new:
    1. GNU Social sends favoriting activity as an ordinary note with "somebody favorited something by otheruser:" favoriting prefix (or as "oneman favourited a status by somebody@somewhere.org)". AndStatus detects such notes during downloading and automatically converts them into LIKE (favoriting) activities, removing the favoriting prefix. https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/491
    2. Added two options to limit total size of cached images and maximum size of any single image (to be sent or received):
Storage -> "Maximum size of cached images, Mb" with a default value of 1000 Mb.
Attachments -> "Maximum size of an attachment, Mb" with a default value of 5 Mb.
    https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/459
    3. Added an option in Settings -> Timeline: "Show my account, which downloaded the activity/note". So far the account shown as "a:accountname" in the note's details (below note's text). https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/493

  23. @lnxw37d2 Yes, having competition is always good :-)
I hope that # will get # server to user protocol, at last. Thus opening a door for young and ambitious developers eager to change the world.
Regarding # performance, it's already noticeably better in v.39. And Timelines open even faster in v.40, which I plan to post for Beta testing later today...

  24. @tom79 About a year ago I duplicated code depository in and since that time I'm pushing updates to both and Gitlab. Unfortunately, "Issues" aren't part of the public repository, and so they cannot be duplicated easily.
That time I decided that Issues in Gitlab are subpar compared to Githubs, so I stayed with Github for communication with users...
Who knows, maybe Gitlab will be the next bought by some corporation...

  26. # v.39.00 "User's profile at the top of their timeline" is released, see https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
    What's new:
    1. User's profile is shown at the top of their timelines: "Sent" (Notes by "someuser@somedomain"). For "my accounts" only: in "Favorites", "Friends" and "Followers" timelines also. Lists of user's friends and followers are available via the profile's context menu.
    2. Switching between accounts made more like in other Android applications, with avatars of current and two previously selected accounts in the Navigation drawer (like e.g. in GMail app). Clicking on current account's avatar opens their "Sent" timeline with the account's profile information at the top. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4312038

  28. After a long break I tried Profiler in Android Studio looking for a way to optimize performance of # And now it not only works, but allows me, at least on # emulator, to see most lengthy operations. As a result, a timeline loads at least three times faster. To be released in AndStatus v.39.
Profiler allows you to record your application's activity and present it as "Call chart", where you can see durations of execution for each method in the stack and easily figure out most lengthy.
Clicking on the method's bar in this call chart brings you to its source code...
I found out that Regex-related methods are the most time-consuming, and optimized them both via using compiled Pattern instead of regex strings, and by executing lengthy operations once only (i.e. I store result of such checks and reuse it later instead of repeating costly operations).
