#UX improvements In upcoming v.39 of #AndStatus:
Switching between accounts made more like in other Android applications, with avatars of current and two previously selected accounts in the Navigation drawer (like e.g. in GMail app).
Clicking on current account's avatar opens their "Sent" timeline with the account's profile information at the top. -
I love the @fdroidorg app store for Android. In my mind screenshots add a lot of value to the listings.
That’s why today I’m going to submit PRs to a couple of app repos to add screenshots.
The PRs for #AndStatus and #OpenVegeMap are already sent:
https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/pull/487
https://github.com/Rudloff/openvegemap-cordova/pull/9 -
@jaller94 Thank you very much for the contribution. The https://github.com/fastlane/fastlane really looks like a unifying way to store metadata for both F-Droid and Google Play, both of which #AndStatus uses.
I was especially impressed by the tool's (advertized...) feature "fastlane supply init: download metadata for an existing app to a local directory", which I understand as ability to initialize metadata with what is already stored in Play Store...
As you may know, AndStatus already has quite a lot of screenshots in Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.andstatus.app plus several (duplicating them...) - in AndStatus Wiki repository, see: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/wiki
It would be good to synchronize them, store in a single location and make available for all usages.
This is why I think that I should start with importing existing images / metadata from Google Play Store, and only after that update that images (if necessary) with your contributed screenshots.

@maiyannah I meant GNU Social problems, which require any fixes at #AndStatus side. Yes, I found our conversation last year about authentication problem at Highlandarrow. That time the problem was supposedly caused by wrong server certificate: https://gnusocial.no/notice/2414203

@maiyannah Actually recent #AndStatus development was focused on aligning internal data model with #ActivityPub specification.
Regarding recently introduced (regression) problems with GNU Social - I am simply unaware of such cases. If you have such problems, please file bugs here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues
@mcnalu -
@mcnalu In order to find out what problems occurred during syncing, please look into "Commands in a queue" menu item. More tips on solving syncing problems in #AndStatus are here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/295

@surge It's interesting that Twitter itself allows posting an image without any text. I just tested this with #AndStatus: https://twitter.com/AndStatus1/status/994640155825922048

@nestort #AndStatus currently uses only plain-text version of the Note to figure out a mentioned Actor. Unfortunately, GNU Social servers (at least some of them) wrongly replace mentioning by webfingerId with mentioning by username without a domain. And this causes confusion, because there can be different actors on different servers with the same username...

@paulelms I see this feature is number 4 (of about 500) among other #AndStatus issues: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/4 "Add an option to expand shortened URLs"
Does anybody know good Open Source solution for it? (not for Twitter only) -
@paulelms It's interesting that offline reading and posting in #AndStatus is useful even for people, who always have stable Internet connection. Because nodes / instances of the federated network aren't always online :-)
For example, yesterday #LoadAverage was offline for the whole day, but I still could read your posts, which were downloaded before the outage, and even responded to them. That responses were actually sent only today, naturally, when LoadAverage is up again :-) -
@ma1uta Actually this is limitation of the "Twitter-compatible API" in #Friendica that causes such unexpected behavior. #AndStatus doesn't have separate API for Friendica and and its developer, with whom I collaborated, deliberately decided to adapt Friendica to the same client API that GNU Social uses and not to create a custom one. I hope Friendica will create #ActivityPub client-to-server protocol as GNU Social plans to do this summer...

@paulelms Glad to hear that you like #AndStatus.
Regarding inconveniences that you noted:
1. You can set as the Default timeline any timeline that you like. Just go to "Manage timelines" action menu item. You can also set any timelines as Always visible or invisible to customize the timeline list...
2. Similarly, you can set default Account and reorder accounts in Settings -> Manage Accounts.
Regarding easier Account switch for posting a new note, do you have any suggestion on this? Maybe I should add account selector to the Note Editor?! I mean making a button "My account / author name" text above the composing note, allowing to switch the posting account/actor?!
.
BTW AndStatus v.38.04 is released http://andstatus.org/changelog.html
PS: Sorry for English :-) -
@coolboymew #AndStatus v. 38 allows you to post images without text... but it appears that not all servers support this :-(
-
I decided to drop support of Android versions before v.5.0 in the future releases of #AndStatus This will allow to start cleaning code from outdated solutions and components... Android v.4 devices currently amount to less than 13% of active devices, which have AndStatus installed, according to Google Play statistics.

@amiloradovsky I just tested ZIP file of the #AndStatus package at https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456 and it is correct. You only need to unzip the package first :-)
I use Total Commander for this https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4206966 -
#AndStatus v.38.02 "Video attachments and Titles for notes" is published at an Open Beta testing channel and just waits for your confirmation that it is ready for release https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
What's new:
1. Video file can be attached to a new note. A thumbnail of the video attachment is shown in a timeline. Video attachment may be viewed the same way as an image attachment.
2. Added titles (names) for notes of Pump.io and Mastodon (where they are called "CW").
3. Added "Public" checkbox to the Note Editor to mark a note explicitly as public or not public. Currently this option is available for Pump.io only.
4. Click on an attached image or video opens corresponding viewer/player application.
5. Added an option for "Collapse duplicates" that allows it to find not only adjacent duplicates ("distance" = 1), but also duplicates, separated by other notes: Timeline -> "Maximum distance between duplicates" which defaults to "5" now. Setting it to 0 disables the "Collapse duplicates" feature.
6. Fixed: All users, mentioned as @username in a text of an incoming note, are identified and used in Notifications. Multiple note recipients are supported for Pump.io. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4202650 -
@thelovebug Thank you for the reminder. I added Liberapay page https://liberapay.com/AndStatus to my donations page and now adding it to #AndStatus info at f-droid also.

@thelovebug
1. Regarding mentions in note's text, I need to make sure that #AndStatus correctly identifies them and make corresponding fix. Hope this will be better in v.38.
2. In order to have NOT-combined timeline for an account:
2.1. Open corresponding combined timeline
2.2. Select the account (in a Navigation Drawer)
2.3. Turn off "Combined" flag (in a Navigation Drawer) - now the timeline is created!
2.4. Go to Manage timelines, find this new timeline and make it Displayed or even Default if you need...
3. Regarding unnecessary "Sent "someuser"" timelines - I fixed this in code already and this won't happen after the fix. Existing unneeded (not opened, not being synced and not "displayed") timelines will be purged automatically and periodically... -
Current version of #AndStatus is 35.06, and it can be used for Android devices v.4.4+ as long as you need. Next version will be for newer devices/firmware, and this is natural cause of software evolution. Sadly, but I also had to buy new tablet for myself in order to use newer applications...
