I noticed that #AndStatus on devices before Android v.5.1 doesn't work with some Mastodon instances due to outdated connection libraries in the firmware...
-
#AndStatus is good though. I like it.

@xrevan86 Thank you for checking! Looking _now_ at my home timeline on the Loadaverage web, I also do see notes, which I counted as missed and which I still don't have in #AndStatus on both my devices. I didn't do screenshots, so this needs to be re-checked... But maybe the problem occurs, when notes are arrived from #Mastodon out of some presumed order?
From my side I will check if that concrete "lost" notes cannot be loaded to AndStatus client for some reason...
@6gain -
@xrevan86 I checked subscribed noted that I received from mastodon.social via Loadaverage during the last day. And I see that some of sent notes were lost for unknown reason. I don't see several posts (not only the latest) neither in #AndStatus nor in a web interface of Loadaverage.
This looks like unreliable or broken synchronization protocol between Loadaverage and #Mastodon... ?! -
Please set logging level to VERBOSE. What I cannot understand is: what data is being transferred? I mean if a server is down, it doesn't respond. By default, in #AndStatus failed commands are repeated not more than 10 times, and not less than after several minutes after previous attempt...

@amiloradovsky "This toot (reply to own reply, a follow-up) didn't contain any mentions by default (feature?)" Yes, this is done deliberately :-)
Regarding CW (Note name in #ActivityPub terms) - I'm testing this now for #Mastodon and #Pump.io and plan to release...
The keyboard doesn't disapper, when switching or screen rotation, if Note editor is active.
I mentioned "business users" in a context of users' need in "intuitive" UI, not about #AndStatus in particular :-) -
@amiloradovsky Advanced problem diagnostic tools in #AndStatus are not for developers only, unfortunately. Answering lots of questions like "Why I don't see new posts in my timeline" during several years, I got that instances of the federated network are not very stable and may easily misbehave for some time. This is why even for an ordinary user a need to figure out a cause of a problem occurs more often than when using corporate services, backed by 24x7 support...
-
@LeeteqXV No, "CW" as other implementations of a note's "name" (title) is not supported yet, I'm just adding it to #AndStatus data model. I also plan to add an option to collapse note's content, if the note's name is present (as #Mastodon users are accustomed to this...)

@coolboymew In upcoming v.38 I will make #AndStatus post pictures even without any text... but also both with a text and a Title (for #Pump.io and #Mastodon that support title / note name)

Thank you for Spanish translation update. I released #AndStatus v.33.04 with this update. AndStatus translation project: https://crowdin.com/project/andstatus

@lnxw48a1 Seven hours to fully complete upgrade? - Your device is really slow... but you are lucky: I spent at least 200 hours developing v.36 and 37 of #AndStatus, so having v.37 installed on my devices took me a lot more efforts :-)
Seriously, since last summer internal data model of AndStatus was mostly redesigned (inspired by #ActivityPub) in order to open a way for future major improvements. No wonder that these changes affected most of the application's features.
I tried to allow existing users (including you) to preserve existing data and not simply tell them that the new version requires uninstall of a previous one (that way I would save a manweek or two of my time). But after upgrade you may need to adjust something yourself (e.g. Manage timelines). If you don't want to bother with settings, just reinstall AndStatus and see it running much faster. Of couse :-)

@lnxw48a1 Please read #AndStatus Change log. It is inside application in the menu -> Help, and here: http://andstatus.org/changelog.html
In particular, Mentions timeline is replaced by Interactions...
Regarding slow work right after upgrade: this is expected, because after main database modifications several long running "data fixers" are started, which fully complete the upgrade.

@lukaso666 Thank you for your feedback. I'm constantly trying to make #AndStatus more powerful and more intuitive to use.
But I value it as a tool for a power user more than a toy for a novice... Ideally it should transform / adapt for both kinds of users, but it's hard to achieve this in one application...
@dwmatiz -
Less than 10% for #AndStatus. Maybe because recently incompatibility of Android 4 with some #Mastodon instances was discovered... Do you use such device?

@thatbrickster Currently I'm testing Video attachments in development build of #AndStatus. I expect this feature will appear in the next release (v.38)
BTW, two days ago AndStatus v.37.01 was released to production and it is already available for everybody at Google Play.
@dwmatiz -
@thatbrickster Yes, and as soon as you are not storing notes for years, it looks like media files take the most part of the storage.
And that files really could be stored in the "cache" storage space.
I'm planning to add a separate setting to limit media files storage. Currently media files are deleted only after corresponding notes have been deleted.
Tip for now: In order get rid of all media files, you can:
1. Create backup of #AndStatus data ( it doesn't contain media files)
2. Uninstall AndStatus
3. Install the same version of AndStatus and
4. Restore backup on the first launch. -
@thatbrickster Whoa, I thought that my local database of 250 Mb is the largest used with #AndStatus. It looks like you configured AndStatus not to purge old notes in Settings -> Storage?! Please do this if you see that the database is too large.
Your own notes, reposts and likes by you shouldn't be purged in any case... but I would create a backup first...
Regarding treating local database as a cache: cache is what can be re-read from a server, if necessary, but if you store data for years, like I do, you have in your local database content that may be unavailable at the original source. Or that source server may be already shut down... Moreover, I see posts telling that e.g. a timeline from #Mastodon is available for several _days_ only. -

#AndStatus v.37.00 is available in the Open Beta testing channel https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
"Merging actors of Users from different Social Networks. New Interactions timeline"
1. Actors having the same WebFingerId (e.g. "andstatus@loadaverage.org") in different social networks are merged logically. This allows AndStatus to show you in one timeline activities of one actor, downloaded via different instances. This is especially needed for GNU Social and Mastodon.
Please note that for Pump.io this feature is provided for years, because all Pump.io instances use the same actorID (WebFingerId) for the same actor.
2. Mentions timeline is replaced by Interactions, which shows not only "mentions" and replies, but also likes, reposts and followers. Basically "Interactions" timeline shows all interactions of other users with us (our actors) whereas "Notifications" timeline shows us only those interactions, which we preferred to be notified about in Settings > Notifications, plus unsent notes.
3. Names of things in the User interface (mostly) changed according to the #ActivityPub Recommendations. In particular, now we use the word "note" for tweets/toots/notices.
And the words "Actor" and "User" have different meanings (In ActivityPub, a user is represented by "actors" via the user's accounts on servers. User's accounts on different servers correspond to different actors.) Most of Timelines in AndStatus show Activities now instead of Notes. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4102974 -

@mcscx As I wrote already regarding duplicated posts: this is an effect of the "guaranteed message delivery" from #AndStatus side and "duplication problem ignorance" from the GNU Social server side.
The long story about duplicated posts, caused by communication problems, is here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/83 -
@mcscx@quitter.se Sorry for duplicated posts. It looks like a server processed the large image too long and I got Timeout exception at my side after 30 seconds.
I will change default "Connection timeout" in #AndStatus Settings -> Syncing to 60 seconds to accommodate for such slow servers. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4099046 -

So far no security updates of #AndStatus itself were ever needed. All security-related changes were caused by changes at a server side. E.g. a client application to check for duplication is conceptually wrong, because this solution won't guarantee absence of duplicated posts at a server side. E.g. a client application to check for duplication is conceptually wrong, because this solution won't guarantee absence of duplicated posts at a server side, which required network protocol changes for client applications including AndStatus. I don't think similar protocol changes will be implemented in older versions of AndStatus. What you may really need are security updates for Android firmware on your device.

@mastor Yeah, it's highly functional, just not quite as polished as others.
I also like that it caches toots locally. It means server outages don't break scrolling the timeline, and it hides the API limits. I never have to tell it to load more toots, I just scroll and the toots are already there.
I feel like other clients could learn a lot from #AndStatus.
