phpMyAdmin giving me grief again: Wordpress still runs fine, but I cannot login from phpMyAdmin, and even logging in to mysqladmin from commandline as root is refusing me / behaving weirdly (prompting for passowrd, then calling it 'unrecognized command' !grrr

!grrr In order to work with Wordpress on my NAS I have to install Wordpres (OK). Of course, that needs a database (MySQL comes with the NAS) but filling in the data doesn't *create* a database; for that I need myPhpAdmin; which I need to install. And configure. Manually. With many things improperly explained, boken links, paths unqualified ('the phpMyAdmin directory' - which one? there are about five). Passwords to be defined in cleartext in the configuration file. (You must be kidding. not.) And so on. Now I hate myhpAdmin even more!

@erkan @andstatus well, !grrr - I installed from F-Droid which has version 9 as its latest version; Settings->Apps sees it as installed, but when I go to the 'Play' store (which has version 15) 'Uninstall' and 'Open' are the only options. So it seems I have to uninstall first just to upgrade. #suboptimal *please* keep the version on F-Droid up to date as well!

!grrr it's snowing now - wet snow, it seems, but it will make some already-slippery spots even more slippery

@lnxw48 oh, yes, terribly irritating - suggests ignorance or bad programming, or both. But I usually generate anyway, and then 'manually' replace 'forbidden' characters with others. Provided of course the set of (not) allowed characters is known. (One site I still have an open ticket with because they don't specify it on the page and don't answer my question what is actually allowed. !grrr)

@erkanyilmaz !grrr now I want to know where that user is hosted - if someone wants a photography group, I want to follow that person! :)

!grrr in spite of having updated *everything* in Debian, darktable still throws an error in a library and won't start :(
-
!grrr I *still* haven't fixed the locale settings (Mint) - anything I do to change or reconfigure gives me an error message: "Error: invalid locale settings: [list of settings]". It doesn't tell me *what* is invalid. This is driving me nuts!

Struggling with Linux mint: locale was set to en-US leading to unreadable date format; trying to fix that I needed a new 17.1 language settings module which had an unmet dependency for which I needed Debian Testing repo. OK so far, but then adding region DK somehow added danish language pack for Thunderbird - but UNinstalled the main application itself. And installing software on a slow connection is painful. !grrr

@mk /s/exins/explains/ *that I do not use* !grrr damn wireless keyboard dropping characters again @chalkahlom

phew! adding a repository and, especially, a key for it, to apt without a root terminal is PAINFUL. It took me three tries (two different syntaxes for the commands which each assumed root, and each brought me one step closer), and in the last step I had to use to man pages to construct the correct command to add the (by now downloaded) key - with sudo. !grrr

@mk interesting... grub seems to look for a file in /grub2 but /brub2 doesn't exist, while that file does exist in /boot/grub. Does Grub understand symlinks? Or do I need to edit the grub config? #Mint !grrr #grubgrumble

From my first attempt at installing Linux Mint Debian Edition, I knew that the partitioning/assigning partitions phase is 'odd' - and totally 'at odds' to what I'm used to from a bunch of other distros I've tried at various times. At least now, I'm finding descriptions of how to actually handle this - and that it works best starting with a 'pristine' HD, and then *during* installation you can use GParted to do the partitioning. (The first attempt totally failed with existing partitions remaining untouched and no Grub installed!) #gettingreadynow !grrr

still struggling with the #networking but making slow progress: can connect with one user but not another; can write files, but not delete :( I'd like to *just work* by now !grrr
