If things you don't like seem prevalent, it is far more likely that this is because they are prevalent in the general population than because there is something about us that attracts such people. This is the real world: lots of people exist who you aren't going to like, and many of them are going to like the same things you like. The sooner you come to terms with this the sooner you can turn your attention to more productive matters. You cannot exclude these people, but you can try to change them for the better. Since it's the subject of the day, let's consider rape jokes for a moment: people tend to make them because they don't understand why they are bad.
