  1. @pinhooves !vancouverbronies We're all good people and it's a pretty casual setting. If you're timid, good ways to get into conversation are to eavesdrop and butt your way into other people's conversations or to just ask who someone's fave pony is. Or discuss the new episode. (But not here, that'll just get the group a bit cluttered, and we should try to save it to meetup planning or talking about things we've done/made.

  2. @underdogbassist !vancouverbronies Maybe we should establish who's seen it and who hasn't at the beginning of the hangout. I can probably get the episode on my laptop by then so we can watch it if we can find a good place to do so. Otherwise, just be wary of who's discussing what.

  3. !vancouverbronies I'll also try to show up slightly early if I can. I'll have my standard black trilby with the Dash pin, RBD shirt, and I'll have my laptop bag with some ponies in it. Also with my laptop, hopefully loaded with the new episode.

  4. @cracky !vancouverbronies Let's make a point of staying at the food court for at least an hour just in case of any latecomers. Also, try to see the first episode of the new season as soon as you can, so you're not getting stuff spoiled in discussions that day. I'll try to put the episode on my laptop if I can by that point, and then hopefully we'll get some place good where people can crowd around and watch it.

  5. @echron1000 !vancouverbronies I say we stick with the Metrotown plan, otherwise it'll get too hectic and people will just get confused. Hopefully one of us will have access to the RDNet group so we can check on any posts in case people are posting about being lost or confused. If it's sunny, we can probably hang around outside around Metrotown. How many stops apart are the park and Metrotown? We might be able to take the Skytrain for one stop or some of us could carpool or something if the weather permits a change in venue.

  6. !vancouverbronies @tigerdusk fantastic, I'll make sure to bring my music player. It's not an iPod, have your speakers got a general aux port or something like that? Also, bear in mind that we probably won't be allowed to play music right there in the food court, we'd have to find somewhere else to do it. Again, I'm banking on the chance of hanging outside for a little bit if it turns out to not be too rainy.

  7. !vancouverbronies Too bad about the picnic part of it being removed. We can still hang around outside if it does turn out nice, though. If anyone's willing to loiter about for a bit, it would be great if we could get some seats saved at the food court, since it's usually pretty full from my experience, particularly on a weekend around lunchtime.

  8. !vancouverbronies @tequilasunrise So, the details of the hangout have gotten submerged pretty deep in this comment stream and the weekend's coming up. Can we get a repost? I may have yet another friend who's interested.

  9. @afancorp @tequilasunrise You said you're talking with the company. You're already acting as some sort of proxy. I don't personally want to plan a convention, though, but if you and Tequila or some other Vancouverbrony go for it, I'll keep my eye on it and I'll tell you if any decisions seem ill-planned or anything like that.

Wednesday, 14-Sep-11 03:43:45 UTC from web in context
  10. @tequilasunrise @afancorp Alright. And I guess charging for tickets wouldn't be too unreasonable if we can keep it cheap, preferably under $20 or so. And for some reason my brain keeps thinking this is something you're planning on doing right away. Roughly when were you thinking this convention would be held? If we want it to be as major as possible it should be at least a few months away.

Wednesday, 14-Sep-11 03:35:27 UTC from web in context
  11. @afancorp The fanbase is pretty large, but there are already some pretty large-scale conventions. It seems like a bit of a specific thing to hold a full convention for, at least for just the lower mainland. Northwest Bronyfest was giant and it gathered about 75 people. I was thinking something 2-4 times a year. Either way, I think we're on the same track that it'll need to be something where we can give people time to plan whether or not they can attend and give us some time to gather some attention and get people to know about it. We've got another meetup coming up on Sunday and I expect that realistically, 10-15 people will likely attend, which I'd consider a bit small to base some major convention around. If you're hoping to start up a con, perhaps it could be one for animation fans in general. If you think the company could help us get in contact with people from the show and get them to come as honored guests, that could help, though.

  12. @tequilasunrise @afancorp BronyMike@DerpyMail.com, however bear in mind that we'd like to keep meetups free to attend, so the meetup company you're contacting won't really make any income off this... It'd be handy if they're able to help us keep track of how many people and who can attend, something similar to meetup.com, and it'd also be cool if they can make the meetup a bit larger-scale, helping us find venues and whatnot, but I think we should keep in mind that we won't want to get overblown. We don't want to have meetups TOO frequently, or we'll have very sparse attendance of each one, as opposed to what I personally think is better, a less frequent meetup that's well-advertised well in advance and is very widely attended.

  13. @jackzhang !vancouverbronies They're at a tech school but they don't know bronies? Pfft, teach these kids to internet.

  14. @jackzhang !vancouverbronies I think I speak for everyone when I say that if anyone involved in any aspect of the show would be interested in an event and would be available, certainly invite them. Like, even the guy who goes and gets coffee for everyone. (P.S.: Please don't email-invite-spam the entire MLP crew)

  15. @thepuzzldpirate Soft drinks would be good, Mike likes him some cola. If I attend (which I'd like to and hopefully will (by the way, how's parking near this park?)), I'll try to bring a cooler fulla ice.

  16. @tequilasunrise They'll be back around soon, though, don't worry. Have you heard Hey Ocean's stuff? I'd never heard of the band until the concert a few months ago. I'm still not too familiar with the music. It's alright. I got the albums, there are some songs I like and I'm pretty sure there are none I necessarily dislike. Opinions, though. They're very good, they've got a great sense of vocal harmony, and Ashleigh can play a wicked flute, but not really what I'd go for beyond an occasional listen. I'll gladly see another of their concerts, though.

Wednesday, 07-Sep-11 06:35:03 UTC from web in context
  17. @tequilasunrise !vancouverbronies She kept saying "See you soon" when saying goodbye (we said farewell a bunch of times 'cause she kept hanging around so we just started up new chats again a few times), so I'm assuming there'll be another Vancouver concert in not-too-long. I just wanna emphasize again, though, if you go to one of the concerts, try to come at least partially for the music, not just for the ponies. Maybe buy an album or a shirt, show some support. I know I've said this over and over, and you're all good guys, but I just wanna make sure everyone's as polite as possible.

  18. !vancouverbronies Oh, and she's not particularly well-versed in the quotes from the show. She seems to quite like the community, but just because she says the lines doesn't mean she'll necessarily remember them all. With voicework you can have the script in front of you so there's less need to commit it to memory. I think she said season two's gonna be pretty awesome, though, but that was just something I overheard as she was talking to Bejoty.

  19. !vancouverbronies @tequilasunrise Hey Ocean was pretty awesome last night. I got their albums and got 'em signed by Ashleigh. She also signed my light-up Rainbow Dash and my RBD shirt. There was a large group of people in front of me with a couple pieces of posterboard with "ASHLEIGH BALL YOU ARE DASHING" and a rainbow drawn on it, though, and according to some of the conversation, since the EqD posts at the beginning of the summer mentioning the band, there's been a ton more people talking about ponies on their Facebook and such. Not too many open bronies have gone up to them at concerts, but there have been a few. She also said she might be interested in going to a meetup at some point, but we should save that for something big, with at least 25-30 people confirmed attending and a good chunk of time for preparatory warning.

  20. !vancouverbronies If it'll all just be in a park it might be cool to have some sort of music player with some brony tunes playin' on it. If the group is small it could help serve as an icebreaker or something, but either way it'll just help fill the atmosphere. Also, @tequilasunrise, I'm still a maybe. Somewhere in a 5-7/10 chance of coming. If I do come, I'll see if I can bring a cooler and some ice. Hopefully someone else can help handle the drinks.

  21. !vancouverbronies Hey guys, just a reminder, Hey Ocean! is playing at 8PM tomorrow at the PNE. Ashleigh Ball, the voice of Rainbow Dash and Applejack, is the singer in this band, and they've got a kind of soft indie feel to their music. I'll be hangin' around too. Stop on by, but use sense, since she's there with the band and I'm sure she'd rather this be about that than all about ponies. As long as you don't alienate the other bandmates too much, I'm sure she'll be willing to sign some pony stuff or something.

  22. @echron1000 !vancouverbronies COME ON PEOPLE WE'VE GOT BETTER THAN THIS! Also, echron, you sent out the question like an hour and a half ago, let's give people some time to confirm or decline whether they can attend.

  23. @echron1000 (It's a dude)

Monday, 05-Sep-11 04:49:25 UTC from web in context
  24. @echron1000 wha? Go for it. I just started the group and did the first meetup, I've got nothing to do with the planning of this one. This is relevant to the event, so feel free to clutter up the vancouverbronies group with the tally if you need.

Monday, 05-Sep-11 04:40:26 UTC from web in context
  25. !vancouverbronies @echron1000 I'll try to make it.

  26. !vancovuerbronies @tigerdusk It's incomplete. This is a more fleshed-out one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1HwstEqziM

  27. @jackzhang !vancouverbronies is it Lauren Faust, Jayson Thiessen, Daniel Ingram, and the entire voice cast?

Sunday, 04-Sep-11 01:51:18 UTC from web in context
  28. !vancouverbronies @tequilasunrise Go for it, but even though we're based in the same area they are, let's make a point of not pestering them too much every time there's a meetup. We don't want them growing resentful or something strange like that.

Friday, 02-Sep-11 00:26:53 UTC from web in context
  29. !vancouverbronies @echron1000 I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it. I'll try, but the past few weeks have been really hectic. Meetups are always fun, but they're a bit tiring and it's better to do them somewhat in moderation. We'll see how I'm feeling, there's a slight chance I'll wanna sit it out. If I come, though, I might be able to bring a cooler with some ice. Some parks you're able to reserve sections of for large-group picnics and whatnot. Wherever this park is, if anyone knows how to contact administration (and if it's free (or if anyone wants to lay down the cash)), maybe we could get some benches set aside so we're guaranteed a good place for the BBQ. Is the plan for the 18th? Is there a time planned out?

Tuesday, 30-Aug-11 18:58:30 UTC from web in context
  30. @echron1000 Hah. Thanks. Some of the talk was planning, I know, but it'd be nice to keep that channel just to the more bare-bones "When/where is stuff happening and what's gonna happen" details, so people don't have to fish through a bunch of posts for info.
