A router in the route between Derpy and Luna is having issues and causing high amounts of packets loss(~75%). In the meantime, we have temporarily removed Derpy from the DNS pool/network.

@ceruleanspark I wasn't aware of the leap second, and on top of that, I was at a friend's place, and his wireless is... Lackluster to say the least. Not sure how he can stand it since it would go out for 10+ minutes at a time. With the storms as well, I was expecting a few splits from repairing the lines and what not since we have a server in that area, so it didn't seem too unusual.

@ceruleanspark Yeah, I stopped the ntpd, manually set the time, and restarted ntpd. That fixed it as well, but with so many other things going on at the same time, it was hard to pinpoint the problem, especially since it wasn't the server that had the issue that was showing problems.

Finally got to the root of the network issues we had on the weekend. As it turns out there was a leap second this weekend, which caused issues in certain kernels with certain programs. One of our scripts that we use was affected by this bug in the kernel that was running. Only one server was affected by it, and it has since been worked around, but it was definitely an interesting bug to happen at the same time as bronycon and the storms.

@ceruleanspark That was a running joke on our servers for a while. Luna was the one having issues, so we would keep on saying she got banished again.

@toksyuryel It should be. It just might not be listed on our website, but all the servers should accept ssl connections on port 6697.

We have a new server to replace a current one that has been unstable lately(sorry Luna!), but we need your help naming it! Currently it is named Chrysalis, but it can be named any canon name. To submit your entry, simply type "/msg MemoServ SEND Colgate <name here>". Limit 1 submittal per pony please.

@renovatedkitchen As it says in our description, we don't use this account much, only for critical announcements(and even then, it can be delayed for a few hours as we work to resolve issues first).

Everything is back to normal after the DDoS attack this morning. As an additional reminder luna.canternet.org will be down for maintenance by our hosting provider in approximately 10 hours. Estimated downtime for this server is 2 hours.

And everything is back to normal. One of our servers had extended downtime due to an unrelated issue.
