    1. @problemedpony How about: How to get a boxset of Season 1 released?

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:41:05 UTC from web
      1. @modulusshift ok. . . so how would you?

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:42:07 UTC from web
      2. @modulusshift I thought a boxed set was already confirmed?

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:42:54 UTC from web
        1. @ceruleanspark *heart attack* Link or it didn't happen!

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:43:25 UTC from web
      3. @modulusshift The easiest way is to buy massive amounts of the DVDs they do release.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:43:11 UTC from web
        1. @colfax Easy, yes, but not going to happen. I think we need to take a more active role in the matter.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:44:35 UTC from web
          1. @modulusshift It's already been explained what will and wont work, demanding it wont work.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:46:52 UTC from web
            1. @colfax We're not demanding it. We're setting it up to sell it ourselves. We simply buy it from Shout the same way Walmart or Best Buy would. Then we distribute it online, and we don't have to deal with a lot of brick-and-mortar problems currently stopping the release.

                  1. @mushi NO IT ISN'. the point is obviously how to get hit over the head.

                    1. @problemedpony waaah!

    3. @ponydude2143 @problemedpony @colfax Shout is the exclusive distributor of FiM home videos, and we've tried pestering them. They said, they only make what the retailers want, since the retailers are who they sell to. So, what if we set up a little company and become a retailer, and request it from Shout?

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:46:28 UTC from web
      1. @modulusshift Ask @darklycute how easy that is.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:47:40 UTC from web
        1. @colfax I'm not saying it's easy, but it is a lot less wasteful than trying to convince retailers used to sales in the high thousands that a group of less than 10,000 bronies are worth selling to.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:50:40 UTC from web
    4. @ponydude2143 Or we could become a retailer, and buy it from Shout! the same way other retailers would. Then we can set up an online store, and sell directly to the bronies.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:49:16 UTC from web
      1. @modulusshift One retailer wouldn't be enough, if the numbers aren't in their favor it just wont happen.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:50:33 UTC from web
        1. @colfax @ponydude2143 We can supply enough funding to overcome those problems. We could set up a Kickstarter project to get funding from the brony community, which would supply the initial investments. If we don't get enough from that, then we cancel the deal and do it your way.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:52:05 UTC from web
        2. @colfax @ponydude2143 If we could pay enough to pull it off, I still think it's possible. We have to at least make an attempt, go through negotiations and see what's possible. Because if you're willing to buy all of the 10 or so DVD's simply to pay full price for a boxset afterwards, I think we can get enough money to pull this off from the community, or it wasn't going to happen the other way anyway.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:58:24 UTC from web
    5. @ponydude2143 @ponydude2143 The main reason they produce huge runs is because only a fraction of what they produce is ever sold by the retailers. If we could pay for a smaller run, we could get all of the money back on our end, due to not having unsold stock. It's not like we're shipping to stores all over the world, most of which will never sell through that stock. We're producing a smaller run we can sell all the way through.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 21:54:17 UTC from web
    6. @ponydude2143 What difference does it make to them if they're getting paid near the same amount, simply for a smaller run? We'll have to hike up the prices on the consumer-facing end, but the product will exist. In the end, it'll be the equivalent of you simply buying every DVD they make, but with a real promise of the boxset at the end, instead of an implied one like we have now.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:00:38 UTC from web
    7. @ponydude2143 I say we should setup a company just for the initial negotiations, get a ballpark figure, and see if we can raise that much through Kickstarter. No obligations from anybody. If we can supply the funding, we can push through the project the rest of the way.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:02:17 UTC from web
    8. @ponydude2143 The transaction only goes through if we have enough to do the project. That's the point of Kickstarter. They'll take money off of what does go through, but if nothing does, then we don't lose anything. No money changes hands unless we are absolutely sure we can pull it off.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:04:51 UTC from web
    9. @ponydude2143 And we can promise copies through Kickstarter as an incentive. We set levels at which the final product will be sold at, and basically promise pre-orders to everybody we took above a certain amount of money from.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:06:32 UTC from web
    10. @ponydude2143 Well, that's my biggest problem. I'm 15. I can't pull any of this off. If I can't get anyone to do it, I might look into getting a relative to help sponsor this, and see what happens. As soon as we look even semi-professional, we'll get a ridiculous amount of PR from EqD.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:08:08 UTC from web
    11. @ponydude2143 But I'd like to see if we could get a few bronies to do it. Poetically, it works better.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:08:56 UTC from web
    12. @ponydude2143 Well, you're more qualified than I am.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:09:32 UTC from web
    13. @ponydude2143 Even better, if we are distributing online, we could get shipping international, and finally the international bronies could have a way of buying ponies.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:12:21 UTC from web
    14. @ponydude2143 If we can pull this off, even better, we can have Blu-ray, and make it worth it even for the stateside bronies. There's no way to buy content over 720p, and that through iTunes.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:13:18 UTC from web
    15. @ponydude2143 It's worth a shot. There is such a thing as region-free DVD's, after all.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:13:50 UTC from web
    16. @ponydude2143 I have never been able to divine it.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:13:54 UTC from web
    17. @ponydude2143 We'll of course check with everybody involved, but I think it can be pulled off.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:14:21 UTC from web
    18. @ponydude2143 If not, then we're f'd on that front. Hopefully, they do. Or, I imagine we would be buying it for them, assuming enough funding.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:15:09 UTC from web
      1. @modulusshift That would be ridiculous, though.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:15:21 UTC from web
    19. @ponydude2143 I don't see why we couldn't work around them. We can get permission from the original owner of the content, I'm sure. We can work it through the channels. Or pay Shout! even more to do it. (sigh)

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:16:23 UTC from web
    20. @ponydude2143 A certain stroke of genius I had? Amazon is mainly a conglomeration of different retailers. If we could set ourselves up with them, we could have internationally cleared retail, warehouse space, everything.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:17:48 UTC from web
    21. @ponydude2143 I don't think that's possible through the current arrangement. As I understood it, Shout! has complete exclusivity on home video. Which means we can't.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:18:43 UTC from web
    22. @ponydude2143 On one point. We could still pull off the core, selling to US bronies. And the internationals will figure out imports, I'm sure.

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:19:24 UTC from web
    23. @ponydude2143 Y'know strictly speaking, FIM is produced in Canada. You're internationals.

      1. @ceruleanspark It is? :D

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:23:30 UTC from web
      2. @ceruleanspark And yet I can't get it on iTunes D< @pinhooves yes; it's produced in BC

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:23:59 UTC from web
        1. @tenmihara Awwwsome. :3

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:26:02 UTC from web
          1. @pinhooves Yeah; too bad Hasbro's a completely American owned company

Thursday, 29-Dec-11 22:30:29 UTC from web
    24. @ponydude2143 So, I've now convinced 2 people on RDN, and lost about 5 times the amount of people I've convinced. (sigh) So, I'm going to make a solid business plan, and see what I can do. At the worst, I'm going to make a big amount of noise.
